in "Sliced Americana" Watkins book, there is a repeated method of intervention from beyond where at the moment of death/catastrophe for different characters in the stories a miracle occurs.
In a flash of an instant the people are removed (second before imminent death) and transferred to a completely other realm/dimension/reality.
Science fiction they call it.
I have wished this scenario upon every one of these people who were set up to burn to death on the beautiful island of Maui. May God have snatched them up securely in his loving grasp before they had to experience the experience.
