Sandra Bullock has revealed the controversial secret to her youthful complexion in an interview with Ellen Degeneres this week – and it has nothing to do with surgery … at least not one performed on her.
The 53-year-old actress appeared on The Ellen Show to promote her latest film Ocean’s 8, where she reluctantly revealed the non-surgical procedure that is behind her age-defying skin. (Seriously, has she aged at all since she catapulted to fame in the 1994 hit Speed?)

The answer? A facial. But not just any facial.
“Well it’s this way in which one forces, through microneedling, it’s like a little roller with these … It pushes through the skin and ruptures the collagen and then boosts it,” said Sandra.
She followed up the rather cryptic explanation of this wonder facial with a warning that “you look like a burn victim for a day, but then it pushes the serum in.”
When pushed by Ellen to divulge the specific secret ingredient of this microneedling facial she replied, “It is an extraction from a, um, a piece of skin that came from a young person, far, far away, and they somehow figured out how to extract …”
Before Ellen helpfully interjected, “It’s foreskin from a Korean baby. That’s what it is.”
It’s called the Hollywood Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) Facial – (aka the “penis facial”), and Sandra Bullock isn’t the only celebrity on board, with Cate Blanchett also touting the amazing benefits of this rather bizarre treatment in an interview with Vogue Australia (that has since been removed following the controversy).
Both stars received their facials at Georgia Louise Atelier in New York, one of which will set you back $AU810. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Louise clarified what the treatment actually involves.
“The foreskin is collected during circumcision and the stem cells are then harvested and extracted through a centrifuge,” says Louise. “I am always very mindful to explain radical serums and potions that I carry in my back bar, so I always explain that EGF is derived from newborn baby foreskin, but cells were taken and from that, new cells are cloned from a laboratory.”
In a further Instagram post, the celebrity facialist stressed that, “No babies were used — only clone cell[s] taken years ago!!!!!!”
“The facial includes a cleanse, followed by an intensive TCA peel, micro-needling machine and en electrifying mask to calm the skin, followed by my ‘secret box’ of EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) serum,” wrote Louise.
The stem cells, which according to Louise are donated to a stem cell bank in Korea, help to generate collagen and elastin.
“FDA approved stem cells and peptides are penetrated deep into the skin using a special electric micro-needling wand. This process allows the active ingredients to be transported deep in the skin by creating a temporary micro-channel,” continued Louise in the post.
While Sandra Bullock is a firm fan, she failed to convince Ellen Degeneres to give it a go.
“I think when you see how good it is to your face you to will run to your local facialist, and say ‘give me the penis!’” praised Sandra.
“I’m never going to say that,” replied Ellen.
