Why does this matter?

No Democrat has ever won the presidency without winning the popular vote. It is practically impossible for them to do so.

Republicans have done this 5 times, 2016 being the last.

DeSantis is unpopular amongst independents, moderates, and MAGA (many of whom are former disaffected blue collar Obama voters from the rust belt).
