Angela Merkel is facing increased pressure from Europe's heads of state and looks likely be ousted if today's talks on the migrant crisis fail.
The German Chancellor warned that torrent of migrants arriving on Europe's shores could 'make or break the EU' as European leaders sat down to discuss strategy on Thursday afternoon.
Merkel has been faced with open rebellion in the past two weeks, both from her own coalition partners and from other EU leaders.
Most notably, Italy's new hardline Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, has put the German Chancellor under pressure by suggesting his country could block any joint EU statement if fellow members fail to do more to help his country tackle the crisis.
Right-wing Hungarian premier Victor Orban also heaped pressure on Merkel by fiercely declaring 'the migrant invasion must be stopped' as he arrived at the conference in Brussels.
Merkel is meeting European leaders today knowing that she must agree a deal on migration to appease her coalition partners and save her career.
