The asphalt is in contact with the dirt/gravel below so that acts like a heat sink. I doubt that the fire existed on top of the asphalt in any location for enough time to damage it. Asphalt is just gravel and tar mixed together and by the time it has cooled after being laid down many of the VOC's have been cooked out of it. The melting/molten aluminum is another matter. I'd be curious to see if other aluminum items not associated with cars melted like the cast wheels did.
