The ISP opens a port that allows all traffic from my address to the WW.
Once you open a TCP session, all traffic passes through designated ports to the next ISP.
That does not mean that can read that traffic, it only means it passes through reserved ports,
and they have no idea were it goes after.
I don't use a VPN.
I encrypt my DNS traffic.
My DNS server gives my encrypted browser an encrypted address, that only the browser can see.
