People in the bay of Naples, when faced with the subhumanity of the Nazi occupation, took matters into their own hands and were able to get the Nazis to leave before the British showed up in the city of Naples.
this famous insurrection is documented in various films, including the famous Le quattro giornate di Napoli, which one can watch for free on line (in Italian), and also at the end of the Alberto Sordi movie (a comedy, though grim in parts) , also free to watch in Italian, called "Tutti a casa"
The Italians don't dwell on the horror of Nazism and the response from people on line to those who spout off about the horrors of what happened usually includes people saying 'you don't know what happened, you weren't there' and stuff like that. Many seem to have chosen to let the past be the past and move forward into the future, a sane attitude for a nation that has so often been subject to foreign occupation.
