All hierarchies are so easy to corrupt. You merely corrupt the top of the pyramid, and the rest will fall in line. The more you flatten out that pyramid, the more you thwart the inevitability of the kind of corruption we are seeing. In matters of politics, term limits are crucial. In matters of other kinds of organizations, temporary positions of leadership or temporary councils are worth consideration.
