Business STOPS whenever electronic payment systems go down – because nearly everything is digital and internet-based these days
The outage happened about a week ago, but the story is still relevant.
Quotes: "Millions of merchants were unable to do business this week after the popular small business point-of-sale (POS) system Square experienced a massive disruption in service."
"Roughly 64 million small businesses rely on Square to process credit card transactions, generate sales reports, evaluate profit percentages and manage their inventory. When the system goes down, so does the business itself."
POS stands for "point of sale" but the other meaning might make even more sense at the moment.
I had a compelling experience a number of years ago, that impacted me so much I still share it from time to time. As I recall I was at a gas station or something and I felt I wanted to give the cashier a tip. I'm not even sure the person was "allowed" to receive it. But as I took the cash, which was a really small amount it was like God said to me "That is a lot of money." The way I took the incident was along the lines that when electronic money disappears or becomes otherwise unavailable cash will be worth a lot.
I think it will be one cent= $1. So cash will be "worth" 100x face which, honestly isn't very much. A lunch that was $10 before the massive inflation started hitting us would be 10 cents.
