US using NATO to ‘absorb’ countries – Moscow

Washington would not hesitate to use its allies as “cannon fodder” if it deems it necessary, Russia’s security chief has said

The never-ending expansion of NATO has enabled the US to turn many nations into its puppets, helping Washington to cling to its hegemony, Nikolay Patrushev, the secretary of Russia’s National Security Council, has said.

In an op-ed for the Razvedchik magazine issued by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) and published on Friday, Patrushev claimed that the West often resorts to military force, coercion, ‘privatization’ of elites, and color revolutions to achieve global domination.

The constant expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance basically provides the US with the opportunity to absorb states and deprive them of their independence in terms of defending their national interests.

The official also blasted the US-led military bloc for what he called “duplicity,” arguing that while NATO has always claimed to stand for peace, it has waged war or threatened military action against countries that oppose Washington’s policies.

“NATO’s military power is used to maintain Western hegemony, economic enslavement, and political pressure on states that pose no military threat to the alliance,” Patrushev stated, adding that members of the bloc have taken part in more than 200 conflicts across the world over the past seven decades.

Meanwhile, Patrushev continued, Washington regards the armies of allies as “colonial” troops and would eagerly use them as “cannon fodder” if necessary without putting its own “exceptional people” in harm’s way.

The West “perceives Russia as a constant threat” because it remembers that it was the Soviet Union that played a crucial role in dismantling the colonial system, according to Patrushev. As a result, he said, the West is using the full range of tools at its disposal against Russia, including sanctions and its massive system of media resources that help it concoct “information frenzy campaigns” across the globe.

Moscow has repeatedly protested NATO expansion, seeing it as a major national security threat and arguing that the increased military build-up on its borders leads to heightened tensions in Europe. Russian President Vladimir Putin has named the risk of Kiev joining the military bloc as one of the key reasons behind the Ukraine conflict.

Chinese ‘spy balloon’ wasn’t spying – US military chief

US intelligence agencies now believe that the mysterious craft really was blown off course, Mark Milley told ABC News

A so-called Chinese “spy balloon” shot down off the east coast of the US in February did not actually collect any intelligence, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told CBS News on Sunday. Beijing insisted from the outset that the balloon was not a surveillance craft.

"The intelligence community, their assessment – and it's a high-confidence assessment – [is] that there was no intelligence collection by that balloon," Milley told the American broadcaster.

The balloon in question appeared in the sky over Alaska in January, before drifting south and crossing the US. Its high-altitude flight ultimately ended when it was shot down off the coast of South Carolina in early February. Throughout its journey and for months afterwards, US officials claimed that the balloon was sent across the US to gather intelligence for Beijing.

In April, anonymous officials told NBC News that the balloon made “multiple passes” over US military sites to intercept electronic communications, before it “increased its speed” in an attempt “to get it out of US airspace as quickly as possible.”

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the Chinese government "both unacceptable and irresponsible” for flying the balloon over US territory, and called off a planned visit to Beijing in response. China maintained that the balloon was a civilian craft that had been blown off course, an explanation that Milley now admits was possible.

“Those winds are very high,” Milley said, referring to the currents above Hawaii that steered the balloon east across the US. “The particular motor on that aircraft can't go against those winds at that altitude.”

Despite revealing that the balloon did not collect intelligence, Milley told ABC News that it was equipped with the necessary sensors and transmitters to do so. "I would say it was a spy balloon that we know with high degree of certainty got no intelligence, and didn't transmit any intelligence back to China,” he said.

Mayoral candidate John Gomes’ campaign released a damning video on Saturday showing evidence of election fraud in the recent Bridgeport Democratic primary. The video has prompted an investigation by the Bridgeport Police Department for “possible misconduct.”

The video on the Gomes campaign’s Facebook page shows a woman dropping stacks of ‘illegal’ ballots into an absentee ballot box outside the Bridgeport government center, where the city’s Registrar of Voters office is located, CT Mirror reported.

The Gomes campaign was able to identify the woman in the footage as Wanda Geter-Pataky, the Vice Chairwoman of the Democratic Town Clerk and a vocal supporter of incumbent Mayor Joe Ganim, who is seeking reelection. Gomes’ campaign claims that the video shows Geter-Pataky dropping off stacks of absentee ballots ahead of the September 12th primary.

“Video surveillance proving that the mayoral election was unequivocally stolen through corruption within City Hall by tampering with absentee ballots,” John Gomes said on his Facebook page.

Gomes lost to incumbent Mayor Joe Ganim in the Democratic primary by a narrow margin of 251 votes, according to the most recent preliminary count posted on the Secretary of the State’s website. Ganim won the absentee vote tally 1,545 to 779, while Gomes led on the voting machines.

The Bridgeport Police Department confirmed that they are actively investigating the actions shown in the video.

“The Bridgeport Police Department are actively investigating information regarding possible misconduct based upon a video that has surfaced on social media,” the department told CT Mirror.

The police department is investigating how the video was obtained and released to the public.

“The Bridgeport Police Department immediately initiated an investigation to determine if any criminal wrongdoing has occurred. In addition, an internal investigation is being conducted to determine if any possible breach to our security video management system has occurred,” it added.

Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter said the department takes “these actions seriously and we will pursue possible criminal prosecution and/or administrative discipline as it relates to any such security violations.”

“Geter-Pataky, who the Gomes campaign alleges is the woman in the video, is one of three individuals the SEEC recommended for criminal charges following an investigation into complaints about absentee ballot handling in Ganim’s tight 2019 primary against Sen. Marilyn Moore,” according to CT Mirror.

The news outlet continued, “As a result, the Gomes campaign is alleging that the video is evidence of a string of absentee ballot fraud in the city.”

Meanwhile, a top academic journal retracted published research doubting a climate emergency after negative coverage in legacy media. The move was decried by another prominent climate dissenter, Roger Pielke Jr., as “one of the most egregious failures of scientific publishing that I have seen” – criticism muffled because the academic says he has been blocked on Twitter (now X) by reporters on the climate beat.

The climate dissenters are pressing their case as President Biden, United Nations officials, and climate action advocates in media and academia argue that the “settled science” demands a wholesale societal transformation. That means halving U.S. carbon emissions by 2035 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050 to stave off the “existential threat” of human-induced climate change.

In response last month, more than 1,600 scientists, among them two Nobel physics laureates, Clauser and Ivar Giaever of Norway, signed a declaration stating that there is no climate emergency, and that climate advocacy has devolved into mass hysteria. The skeptics say the radical transformation of entire societies is marching forth without a full debate, based on dubious scientific claims amplified by knee-jerk journalism.

Many of these climate skeptics reject the optimistic scenarios of economic prosperity promised by advocates of a net-zero world order. They say the global emissions-reduction targets are not achievable on such an accelerated timetable without lowering living standards and unleashing worldwide political unrest.

“What advocates of climate action are trying to do is scare the bejesus out of the public so they’ll think we need to [act] fast,” said Steven Koonin, author of “Unsettled: What Climate Science Tells Us, What It Doesn’t, and Why It Matters.”

“You have to balance the certainties and uncertainties of the changing climate – the risks and hazards – against many other factors,” he adds.

Former Ambassadors Peter Hoekstra and Joseph Cella Call for Investigation into CCP-Linked Gotion

The Gateway Pundit reported that the State of Illinois is providing taxpayer funded incentives, of more than half a billion dollars, to lure a Communist China-tied company, Gotion, to build an electric vehicle (EV) battery factory in the state. Gotion will receive additional federal tax incentives.

On Friday, two former U.S. ambassadors called on the Treasury Department Friday to review Gotion according to the Daily Caller News Foundation:

Through the Michigan-China Economic and Security Review Group (MCESRG), former U.S. Ambassadors Peter Hoekstra and Joseph Cella called on the Treasury Department’s Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to compel Gotion, Inc., a subsidiary of China-based Gotion High-Tech, to file disclosure paperwork and submit to a full CFIUS review. Their request follows a Friday DCNF report which found that Gotion High-Tech established a joint venture company with a State Department-identified “Communist Chinese Military Company Subsidiary” in 2016, as well as several other DCNF investigations detailing Gotion, Inc.’s connections to the CCP via its parent company.

Gotion, Inc.’s previously-filed paperwork “provides narrow, de minimis, vague and incomplete information, and lacks the strict scrutiny and due diligence necessary for this massive and complex transaction that is shrouded by binding and punitive 5-year non-disclosure agreements,” Cella told the DCNF of Gotion, Inc.’s plan to build a facility in Michigan. “Many reasonably-thinking people consider Gotion to be evading CFIUS.”

Hockstra and Cella released the following statement:

This latest revelation points to Gotion’s parent company, Guoxuan High-Tech Company, Ltd., ties to a CCP military company, and further exposes how this ‘deal’ with the State of Michigan and other parties is corrupted from head to tail and a huge risk to our national security.

Following Gotion’s filing of Form 802, Guoxuan or Gotion did not receive a “safe harbor” letter from the Department of Treasury, and thus they both remain subject to CFIUS subsequently initiating a deep review of this transaction. Guoxuan, Gotion, and Mr. Chuck Thelen, the Vice President of North American Operations for Gotion, have engaged in a massive disinformation campaign to suggest all things otherwise.

GOP Senators Cotton, Wicker, Collins, and Graham Urge Joe Biden to Send Tactical Missile Systems to Ukraine: “Not Doing So Will Only Prolong the War”

Senators Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi), Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) have penned a letter to Joe Biden, urging him to send MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to Ukraine. The senators argue that not doing so will “only prolong the war” between Ukraine and Russia. The senators’ proposal is misguided and perilous for the United States and global stability.

The senators’ letter comes on the heels of the Senate Armed Services Committee’s unanimous approval for the Department of Defense to send long-range missiles to Ukraine.

The senators claim that the U.S. can provide these weapons “without any appreciable risk to its own combat capability.” They further argue that Ukraine “only requires a small portion of our stockpiled ATACMS” and that the U.S. can easily replenish its inventory.

This sense of urgency and the notion that the U.S. has an endless supply of missiles to spare is absurd. The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Joe Biden mentioned that the United States was running low on military ammunition.

Joe Biden admitted on national television that the US gave cluster bombs to Ukraine “because the US is low on other ammunition.”

“This is a war relating to munitions. And [Ukraine] is running out of that ammunition, and we’re low on it. And so what I finally did, I took the recommendation of the Defense Department to not permanently, but to allow for in this transition period where we had more 155 weapons… these shells for Ukrainians to provide them with something as a very low DUD rate,” said Biden.

“I wrote to President Biden with my colleagues and urged him to provide Ukraine with the missiles its military needs to win. Not doing so will only prolong the war and cost lives,” Cotton wrote.

We write to urge you to immediately send MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to Ukraine. Additional delay will only further undermine U.S. national security interests and extend this conflict.

For many months, Ukrainian officials have stated the need for ATACMS to fill a critical gap in long-range fires capability. Providing ATACMS would enable Ukraine to strike key Russian logistics and communications targets as well as cruise missile and drone launch sites within Russian-occupied Ukraine. In particular, the longerrange unitary warhead variant of ATACMS should be sent without delay. The recent Ukrainian strike on Sevastopol naval port using the British Storm Shadow long-range weapon demonstrated the battlefield effectiveness of such weapons. Providing these weapons to Ukraine would maximize the likelihood of success in its current counteroffensive and follow-on operations. ATACMS could also augment Ukraine’s ability to destroy Russian defensive formations.

"We Dare Not Keep Silent": ATF Releases Anti-Gun Rule For Public Commen

Earlier this year, the Biden Administration announced its intent to move the United States "as close to Universal Background Checks as possible without additional legislation."

After much speculation on how far-reaching the rule would be, it has finally arrived, and it's worse than expected.

In its current form, the universal background check rule could subject those who sell even a single firearm to dealer requirements, including a background check.

While it is worth noting that none of this would be possible without the Republican-backed gun control known as the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. There's still something that gun owners can do to combat this rule.

Under the Administrative Procedures Act, when agencies like ATF make rules, they must first submit the rule for public comment on the Federal Register.

During this period, citizens can give their thoughts on the rule and describe their unique situations as to how it will affect them.

If enough comments are negative, the agency will pull the rule and not proceed. Gun Owners of America has experienced massive success in defeating the ATF through this method. Most significantly, in 2015, we defeated the Obama administration's attempt to ban M855 "green tip" ammunition during the notice and comment period.

The first attempt at a pistol brace ruling during the Trump Administration was also defeated through the notice and comment period. ATF retracted the rule and "acknowledged there were legitimate uses for the devices," a statement that encapsulates the hypocritical nature of the agency itself.

And even if the rule goes through and becomes the law of the land, we're not out of options, but your comments are still extremely important to the next steps.

First, we lobby Congress to bring the rule under the Congressional Review Act. Gun Owners of America did this for Biden's pistol brace rule with H.J. Res 44. The House of Representatives passed a resolution that condemned the ATF rulemaking. Even though the resolution had no chance of being signed by Joe Biden, it still showed that ATF had acted against Congress's intent, sending a powerful message to the courts.

To get members of Congress to vote yes on this resolution, all we had to do was point to the massive number of comments left on the rule by their constituents.

Your comments matter in our lawsuits. If we can't get Congress to act, we can always take the ATF to court, something we're preparing to do right now over this rule. 14 Dead in Plane Crash in Brazil

Fourteen people on a small jet died when the plane crashed in Brazil’s northern Amazonas state on Saturday, the state’s governor said.

The accident took place in the Barcelos province, some 400 kilometers (248 miles) from the state capital, Manaus.

“I deeply regret the death of the 12 passengers and two crew members who were victims of the plane crash in Barcelos on Saturday,” said Wilson Lima, Governor of Amazonas state on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Our teams have been working from the outset to provide the necessary support. My sympathy and prayers go out to their families and friends.”

The Manaus Aerotaxi airline issued a statement confirming that there had been an accident and that it was investigating but offering no details about deaths or injuries.

“We count on respect for the privacy of those involved at this difficult time and will be available to provide all necessary information and updates as the investigation progresses,” the statement said.

The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) said in a statement that investigators from the Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA) had been called in to begin an investigation into the reasons for the crash of the small aircraft, an Embraer Bandeirante with the registration PT-SOG.

In an interview with O Globo newspaper, Mr. Lima said that the bodies had already been removed from the aircraft and that the victims were Brazilian tourists.

Mr. Lima also added that the region faces heavy rainfall and the most likely cause of the accident was an error in the route taken at the time of landing.

West Must Prepare for a ‘Long War in Ukraine’ Says NATO Chief Jens Stoltenberg

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg warned Sunday that the West must make preparations for a “long war in Ukraine,” and declaring that there is “no doubt” Ukraine will eventually join the American-led military alliance.

In an interview with the German Funke media group, the Norwegian politician threw cold water on the notion of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine coming to an end any time soon.

“Most wars last longer than expected when they first begin,” Stoltenberg said per France24. “Therefore we must prepare ourselves for a long war in Ukraine.”

“We are all wishing for a quick peace,” the NATO Secretary General continued. “But at the same time, we must recognise: if President Zelensky and the Ukrainians stop fighting, their country will no longer exist. If President Putin and Russia lay down their weapons, we will have peace.”

The comments come ahead of another planned Washington visit from President Volodymyr Zelensky next week when he will once again meet with President Joe Biden as well as members of Congress to lobby for additional military aid amid the fledgling counteroffensive against the heavily entrenched Russian forces, which are occupying large swaths of Ukrainian territory in the south and in the Donbas region.

According to reports, Congress is currently considering — at the urging of the Biden administration — a further $24 billion in aid to Ukraine, which would come on top of the $113 billion in American taxpayer dollars already committed to backing Kyiv in what has devolved into a proxy war with Moscow.

On top of predicting a long conflict, Secretary General Stoltenberg, whose term in the NATO top role was artificially extended earlier this year due to the war in Eastern Europe, went on to proclaim that “there is no doubt that Ukraine will eventually be in NATO.”

At the last summit of the Western military alliance in Vilnius, Lithuania, NATO leaders agreed that Ukraine could become eligible to become a member, however, it would first have to enact reforms in order to meet the alliance’s membership criteria.

A list of “minimum requirements” laid out by the American State Department in 1997 said that prospective NATO members must demonstrate a commitment to upholding democracy through “tolerating diversity”, “showing progress” towards developing a market economy, having a military “firm civilian control”, respecting the sovereignty of other nations, and show that it is “working toward compatibility with NATO forces”.

It is unlikely for the alliance to admit a country currently at war given that it would immediately trigger Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which mandates that all members come to the defence of another member state. Questions would also probably arise over ongoing border disputes between Russia and Ukraine, given that small territorial conflicts could potentially spark a world war if the borders are not firmly determined before Ukraine potentially joins the Western alliance.

So far, Kyiv has rejected any suggestion — even from NATO officials — to consider ceding some of its territory in exchange for a peace deal with Moscow and NATO membership, vowing instead to fight until the country’s 1991 borders are fully restored.

U.K. health agency 'closely' monitoring deadly virus in India, has up to 75% fatality rate

The United Kingdom is apparently monitoring the recent outbreak of Nipah virus in India, which has a kill rate of up to 75% of those who contract the illness.

The recent uptick in cases of the virus, which reportedly inspired the Hollywood pandemic flick "Contagion," has killed two people in the southern state of Kerala, according to the Daily Mail.

Five other cases have been detected, including a child of one of the victims. The report indicated that 800 people have been tested for the virus thus far. The U.K. Health Security Agency stated that it was "closely" monitoring the outbreak.

X account Alert Channel posted: "Reports are emerging from India of a highly dangerous Virus with a kill rate of 75% which is far deadlier than anything previously seen. #NipahVirus is spread by fruit bats, who can transmit the virus to people via contact with infected bodily fluids like saliva or urine left on fruit."

Public transport in the area has been suspended, and those from neighboring states are also being tested for the infection.

The illness is contagious and spreads easily, whether by sneezing or coughing. The virus can be fatal by causing respiratory issues and brain swelling, according to the report.

There are no successful vaccines against the virus. The only treatment is helping the patient survive the symptoms while the body tries to fight off the infection.

A spokesperson for the UK health agency said: "UKHSA’s emerging infections and zoonoses team continue to monitor the Nipah outbreak closely though our epidemic intelligence processes."

"Nipah virus has not been detected in the UK and the risk of importation into the UK is very low."

Professor Miles Carroll, an expert in viruses at the Pandemic Sciences Institute at the University of Oxford, said: "To date, there have been five confirmed cases and two deaths reported, with many of those affected being family members of the first patient."

"Scientists here in Oxford are working with local partners in endemic countries to find out more about Nipah so we can ensure the world is better protected from outbreaks of this kind."

He went on to mention that Oxford researchers are currently at work on using the same technology as the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to set up a clinical trial for the Nipah vaccine.

There has never been a report of Nipah virus in the U.K. or U.S.

Nipah was first discovered in 1999 after an outbreak occurred among pig farmers in Malaysia, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
