I AGREE
We have all heard the phrase, "s/he can't see the forest for the trees"
In the context of mythology/religion, this would be someone who is so concerned with the details (e.g. historicity) of the story that they are blind to the deeper mythological Truths when understood from a broader context.
For example, ask yourself when you saw the movie The Matrix for the first time, did you leave the theater believing that some people can dodge bullets or did you grasp the deeper metaphorical truths bedded within the story?
For me, the most underappreciated Truth in the story of Christ was that he demonstrated by example that one need NOT "walk on water" to do what is RIGHT in this world.
Unfortunately, many self proclaimed "Christians" (that I have met anyway) "can't seem to see the forest for the trees."
This is similar to the insight I got from watching the movie "Phenomenon"
(I think this short clip illustrates the point nicely)
