Yesterday anon posted an interesting column about the show Survivor purporting to demonstrate how in a survival situation the men go to work and the women lie around and sunbathe. I been thinking about that since yesterday and I think I have some different ideas.

Which women are available to sit around and sunbathe and/or have time to get on a show like Survivor? Perhaps those that are a bit narcissistic maybe? Which women would not be available for such things? Maybe those who are devoted already to worthwhile endeavors like having families or more conventional work or maybe they aren't very attractive and have to show their value by other means. Which type of men are available to be on a show like Survivor? They need to be pretty healthy, but they'd also be ones with time available to sit on an island for a bit, right?

My question is this: What has gone wrong with society that healthy men who can build a community from scratch are sitting around trying to get on "reality tv" instead of building things IRL for themselves? What has gone wrong with society that women who used to be grateful and happy about being at home caring for families seem to think it's "cool" to sit on a beach sunbathing instead of tending to IRL meaningful endeavors?
