>Plum Grove is not a new or a developing issue. It is a problem which existed long before I took office and I have been at the forefront of trying to address since taking oath in 2017. When the federal government wasn’t hearing the concerns of Liberty County, I took this unique situation to the state’s highest offices, in asking for both help and guidance.

>Law enforcement, first responders, county commissioners, and our local school district, all had a crisis on their hands and we still do. The private developer acted in accordance with the law, though the law was not sufficient. Federal Law vehemently protects the ability for non-native individuals to purchase and own private property within the United States. The State of Texas’ ability to regulate or discriminate based on country of origin is federally protected and prohibited.

>We as a state, are tasked with the near impossible challenge of securing our southern border with minimal assistance from the federal level. Our state and local law enforcement legally cannot enforce nor inquire of legal status. The whole situation is a perfect storm which has been and continues to be at a breaking point. Our community and our state have been left holding the bag and trying to pick up the pieces.
