I think they are trying to keep the US from destabilizing the oil market which undermines real economies: the biggest oil producers. Even though the US king dollar is being slowly dethroned consider the fact that nearly all national currencies on the FOREX are still backed by the USD. This means the US government has still has massive leverage to manipulate or fix commodity prices. I think Russia and Saudi Arabia are finally fed up with that, so as oil producers they another kind of leverage and that's how much oil can be produced or put on the market. Just my thoughts.
