I don't think most military jobs carry over into civilian jobs, unless maybe at the the high level officer ranks.
My uncle was an airplane mechanic for the Navy for 4 years, way back before WW2 even started, and when he got out no one would hire him to be an airplane mechanic. They said that they didn't want to have to "untrain" him of his military training.
Not sure if that's still the case but I wouldn't doubt it.
But I think some Military Police used to join at 18 because they were to young to be civilian cops, and then when they got out they tried to get a job as a civilian cop. Not sure how that worked out for them.
I think that is why there are so many homeless veterans.
The military jobs don't really carry into the civilian arena.
They have to come out and go to school to learn a new trade.
A lot of them end up going back into the military again. That's what happened to my brother. He got out for awhile and then re-enlisted.
