I remember years ago a pair of US fighters forgot the callsign they had been assigned at briefing.
Sheepishly they admitted to the controller that they couldn't remember their callsign so they were assigned temporary callsigns 'IDIOT01 & 02'.
I suspect something similar might have happened.
