Americans under felony indictment have a right to buy guns, judge rules
Sept 20 (Reuters) - A federal law prohibiting people under felony indictment from buying firearms is unconstitutional, a federal judge in Texas has concluded, citing a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that significantly expanded gun rights.
U.S. District Judge David Counts, an appointee of Republican former President Donald Trump, reached that conclusion on Monday in dismissing a federal indictment against Jose Gomez Quiroz, who had been charged under the decades-old ban.
Counts cited the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in June declaring for the first time that the right to "keep and bear arms" under the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment protects a person's right to carry a handgun in public for self-defense.
Counts said that while the U.S. Supreme Court decision did not erase societal and public safety concerns about guns, it had "changed the legal landscape."
"The Second Amendment is not a 'second class right,'" Counts wrote. "No longer can courts balance away a constitutional right."moar

8 Hospitalized After JetBlue Flight Experiences ‘Sudden Severe Turbulence’
Eight people were hospitalized following a turbulent incident on a JetBlue flight as it approached Florida, according to authorities.
On Monday, September 25, JetBlue Flight 1256, en route from Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Fort Lauderdale, encountered “sudden severe turbulence” as it approached the Florida area, a JetBlue representative told CBS News.
Upon safely landing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, medical personnel transported seven passengers and one crew member to a local medical facility for assessment and treatment, officials said.
The extent of their injuries remains undisclosed.
JetBlue officials stated, “[We] will work to support our customers and crew members.”
Authorities have temporarily removed the aircraft involved in the turbulence incident from service for an inspection. end

Former NHL Player Nicolas Kerdiles Dead At 29
Nicolas Kerdiles, a former NHL hockey player, lost his life on Saturday following a motorcycle collision in Nashville, police said. He was 29 years old.
The former Anaheim Ducks hockey player rode his motorcycle past a stop sign in the early hours of Saturday and collided with the driver’s side of an SUV, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. The SUV’s driver came to a stop, and investigations showed no signs of impairment in either driver. Kerdiles succumbed to his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Law enforcement does not foresee any charges arising from the accident. moar
