about the bluebirds.
I read recently about an actor, Charles Laughton. His friend said he was looked over for parts in his later years, but really believed in the power of Art and theater, and was an enthusiast for achievement of this elusive aesthetic transcendence, in the "pursuit of his art, the "blue bird"?(which I guess is presumed to be always elusive?)
When I read that, I thought of this song.
Wonder if it some kind of code. Charles Laughton was said to be terrified of being ID'd as gay, and that he was.
There's a few "bluebird on my shoulder" songs. One from Disney. This is blind melon? (creepy name? anyway, singer's long gone? unnatural young-aged death?)
"Candy Says" is the song.
(Candy was apparently a , what was called then, "drag queen" but was maybe a trans, ans just wasn't a category so recognized normally, back then?)
song by Lou Reed, made famous by his "Velvet Underground?"
