Anon's guess is the same as other genital mutilation practices, because sex has been viewed as an enemy to productivity throughout human history. Of course, with all things we try and do to "fix" God's world, the unintended consequences can bite us in the ass.
That's one thing that really bothers me about work culture here. I learned some terrible attitudes from my first jobs that I've had to work the rest of my life to fix. Now, I really just want to throw myself into my work, but that's so alien to the culture in most places and it's really frustrating.
