Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee's Statement on Serving as Acting Governor

 

"I have been notified that I will be serving as Acting Governor beginning later this evening until

mid-morning tomorrow. While I am pleased to step into this role, I will refrain from naming

directors to the 13 agencies that currently have vacancies and will not call the Arizona Legislature

into session to confirm them. That being said, I do hope when the Governor returns to Arizona, she

will promptly name qualified directors to these important state agencies and remove the legal

uncertainty that exists for all of the regulatory actions taken by the agencies. I expect to see a swift

resolution to this matter, so we can get back to getting the work done for Arizona taxpayers. The

people of Arizona deserve leaders who follow the rule of law."

Kimberly Yee is the 45th State Treasurer of Arizona, serving since January 2019.013 She is the first Asian-American woman elected to the Arizona State Legislature.3 Yee is a member of the Republican Party and holds dual bachelor's degrees in English and political science from Pepperdine and a master's degree in public administration from Arizona State University.1 She oversees the cash management of Arizona's $63.28 billion state budget and payments to agencies, local governments, and schools. Yee is also the Administrator of the AZ529 Education Savings Plan, which has grown assets to over $1.92 billion since the Fall of 2020 with 30,022 new accounts opened to help families save for higher education and workforce development.0 Recently, Yee served as acting governor for a few hours.
