Trump eyes executive order expanding power to block deals between U.S., foreign telecom firms
Trump administration officials are debating whether to declare a “national emergency” to protect U.S. telecommunications networks in a move that would give the federal government broad powers to prevent American companies from doing business with foreign suppliers, according to a White House document and officials familiar with the matter.
Under a draft executive order reviewed by The Washington Post, the president would authorize the commerce secretary to block transactions involving U.S. and foreign telecommunications equipment makers on national security grounds. U.S. networks, which underpin the day-to-day running of the economy and vital public services, are “attractive targets for espionage, sabotage and foreign interference activity,” the order says.

'Trump says he will bring up election interference with Putin
President Trump said Friday that he plans to bring up Russia's efforts to meddle in U.S. elections when he meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin next month.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said that Russia's interference in Ukraine and its role in Syria will also be on the agenda when he meets with Putin on July 16.
But Trump asserted that Moscow's interference in U.S. elections will be a key topic.
"We don’t want anyone tampering with elections," he told reporters en route to Bedminster, N.J. for the weekend.
White House national security adviser John Bolton, who met with Putin in Moscow this week, said on Wednesday that he discussed the election meddling issue with the Russian president. "We did indeed talk about Russian interference in the elections and I expect it will be a subject of conversation between the two presidents as well," Bolton said at a news conference.

''House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., wants 17 current and former FBI or Justice Department officials to testify on Capitol Hill about possible government surveillance abuse during the 2016 election, including fired FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe and embattled FBI official Peter Strzok.
In a letter obtained by Fox News, Nunes requests that the joint task force of the Oversight and Judiciary Committees take steps to interview these officials because they may “have relevant information.”
The House Intelligence Committee does not have direct oversight over the FBI and the DOJ, so testimony is more likely to be compelled by referring names to the Oversight and Judiciary Committees.
“For the sake of transparency and to keep the American people as fully informed as possible about these matters, the task force should consider interviewing these individuals in an open setting,” Nunes wrote in the Friday letter to House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy and House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte.''"
