Wagner fighters return to front line – CNN

Ukraine has claimed it has identified several hundred former members of the PMC on the battlefield, the outlet reported

Former Wagner Group fighters have returned to the battlefield near Artyomovsk (known as Bakhmut in Ukraine), CNN reported on Wednesday, citing commanders in Kiev. The Russian private military company withdrew from the front in May, later staging a short-lived mutiny.

Sergey Cherevaty, deputy commander of communications for Ukraine’s eastern forces, told the US network that former Wagner troops are now working for the Russian Defense Ministry or its affiliated structures, and have been dispersed among various units on the front line.

“As of now, there are several hundred of them in our direction, on the Eastern Front, in different areas,” Cherevaty claimed.

A Ukrainian drone operator near Artyomovsk also told CNN that “Wagner is here,” adding that the fighters “swiftly changed their commanders and returned here.”

The Wagner Group was instrumental in taking control of Artyomovsk, a key Donbass stronghold which was captured by Russian troops in late May after months of bitter fighting. Several days later, Evgeny Prigozhin, the now-deceased chief of the PMC, announced a withdrawal from the front line, stating that positions previously occupied by Wagner troops had been handed over to the Russian military.

However, the pullout came amid strained relations between Prigozhin and the Russian Defense Ministry. The PMC chief repeatedly accused defense officials of providing his troops with inadequate ammunition supplies. The ministry denied the claims, and demanded that all “volunteer units” fighting in the conflict with Ukraine sign contracts with the Russian military – something Prigozhin refused to do.

The feud culminated in late June when the Wagner chief accused the Defense Ministry of shelling one of the PMC’s field camps – an allegation denied by the ministry – and announced a ‘march of justice’ on Moscow. Later, however, Wagner agreed to halt its advance as part of a deal with Moscow brokered by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

As a result, Wagner troops received an offer from Russian President Vladimir Putin to sign contracts with the Defense Ministry or move to Belarus, a key ally of Moscow.

Prigozhin died along with several high-ranking Wagner operatives in a plane crash in Russia’s Tver Region in August. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and will include the possibility that the crash was a “premeditated crime,” according to Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.

(Maybe Prigozhin is “The Ghost of Kiev” now!)

Democrats want to ‘bleed Ukraine dry’ – US senator

Ohio Senator J.D. Vance claims that Democrats have ulterior motives for approving Ukrainian military aid packages

Figures on the political left in the US blame Russia for Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential election victory and have committed to “bleed Ukraine dry” in retaliation, according to Republican Senator J.D. Vance.

“Sorry, this needs to be said,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) late on Saturday in advance of a deal being struck to prevent a disruptive US federal government shutdown. “A lot of the anti-Russia obsession on the left has nothing to do with Ukraine. It’s a revenge fantasy over 2016.”

The senator from Ohio added: “They blame Russia for Donald Trump’s election and they’ll bleed Ukraine dry for payback.”

Lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle in Washington have been sparring in recent days over the implementation of a temporary funding bill to keep government agencies operational ahead of an overnight deadline and prevent a costly shutdown.

The package, which was signed by US President Joe Biden minutes before the deadline on Saturday, funds the government until November 17 but drops additional aid to Ukraine – a key White House priority which has faced opposition from a growing number of Republican politicians.

Republican objections to blank-check spending on Ukraine aid can be interpreted as a signal that the GOP is switching to a more isolationist stance as it relates to military aid to Kiev. It mirrors Donald Trump’s position that theUkraine conflict “must be stopped immediately, since hundreds of thousands of people are dying.”

It appears to be Vance’s position, according to the substance of his social media post, that Democratic figures in Washington are continuing their efforts to fund Kiev’s military ambitions not to support Ukraine but rather to oppose Russia over claims of Moscow’s alleged election interference in 2016.

United States intelligence services accused Moscow of meddling in the 2016 presidential election with the express purpose of harming Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s candidacy and supporting that of Donald Trump.

Following the publication of a 1,313-page report in July 2019 following a nearly two-year-long investigation into the matter conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, a Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee said it had found evidence of what it said was an “extensive campaign” undertaken by Russia to boost then-candidate Trump’s election bid.

Moscow has consistently denied involvement. The findings of Mueller’s investigation determined no firm evidence that the Trump campaign had directly colluded with Russian figures to further its election aims.

(Actually thats a pretty good theory!)

‘My people have bigger problems than Ukraine’ – EU state’s election winner

Further casualties in the conflict between Kiev and Moscow benefit nobody, says Slovak party leader Robert Fico

The Slovak Social Democracy (SMER-SD) party will not support further military aid for Ukraine, its leader, Robert Fico, told journalists on Sunday. Fico’s party took the lead in the parliamentary elections held over the weekend and is now poised to start talks about forming a government.

“Slovakia and the people of Slovakia have bigger problems than Ukraine,” he said at a press conference following the announcement of the election results. The SMER-SD won around 23% of the vote, with its closest competitor, Progressive Slovakia (PS), receiving some 18%.

When asked about his party’s stance on helping Kiev, Fico said that, if his party successfully forms agovernment, it would still be ready to help, but only in a humanitarian way. “We are prepared to help with the reconstruction of the state, but you know our opinion on arming Ukraine,” he said.

The SMER-SD conducted an election campaign under the slogan “Not a single round,” suggesting that it would end military assistance to Kiev. An EU and NATO member state with a population of around 5.5 million, Slovakia has already supplied Ukrainian forces with armored personnel carriers, howitzers, and its entire fleet of Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jets.

Last week, Fico vowed at one of his campaign rallies that his party would not “send a single round [of ammunition] to Ukraine” if it won the election. On Sunday, the politician, who is a former prime minister, described the ongoing conflict as a great tragedy, adding that prolonging the standoff would only make things worse.

“We will do everything we can to start peace negotiations as quickly as possible,” he said, referring to the conflict between Moscow and Kiev. “Further killing does not benefit anyone,”Fico added.

Slovakian President Zuzana Caputova said on Sunday that she would formally ask Fico to form a new government on Monday.

With no party set to win a majority, Slovakia will need to form a coalition government. The pro-European HLAS (Voice) party, which took third place with 14.7%, did not rule out a possible alliance with SMER-SD. Fico also received congratulations on his election victory from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who said it would “always [be] good to work together with a patriot.”

A victory by Fico and his party has reportedly sparked concerns in the US. According to Russian foreign intelligence, Washington had sought to keep the previous Slovakian government in power.

Ukraine has ‘no chance’ without US – MP

Kiev should commit to joining Washington’s wars abroad in exchange for continued military assistance, Aleksey Goncharenko says

Ukraine will almost certainly be defeated in its conflict against Russia if Washington stops providing military aid, Verkhovna Rada MP Aleksey Goncharenko warned in a Telegram post on Sunday.

His comments came a day after US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy suggested cutting military assistance to Kiev from the spending bill to avoid a shutdown.

“Without the support of the USA, we have almost no chance of holding out,” said Goncharenko, a politician linked to former president Pyotr Poroshenko’s European Solidarity party. He also described McCarthy’s statements as “not just a wake-up call” but an “alarm bell” for Ukraine.

Kiev desperately needs to secure continued military aid from Washington, the MP insisted, addingthat Ukraine should employ a more active strategy in this field. The measures suggested by Goncharenko include a permanent Ukrainian delegation to the US Congress and Ukrainian MP trips to every US state to “convince” Americans of the need to continue backing Kiev, both through direct meetings and TV appearances.

The lawmaker also admitted that Kiev was “losing the information [war]” in the US and was thus losing support. “It is necessary to become even more actively involved in the information war,” he said. He added that it would be beneficial to speak to the US “in the language of money” and show them the clear “benefits of Ukraine’s victory.” Kiev should also pledge to join any military campaign that Washington launches, Goncharenko said. “We are ready to be allies of the USA in all military operations more strongly than Britain,” he stated.

He published the post just a day after McCarthy said that prioritizing “Ukraine over America” could lead to some “real problems.”He also stated that the US lawmakers could have passed the last-minute spending bill to extend government funding beyond September and avoid a potential shutdown if not for the aid to Ukraine.

The legislation was rejected in a 232-198 vote, with all Democrats and 21 of McCarthy’s fellow Republicans opposing it. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby warned this week that the Pentagon could only continue to support Kiev for “a few weeks” if the spending bill is not passed.

‘Not much time’ to help Ukraine – Biden

The US leader reassures Americans that Washington will keep supporting Kiev as critics insist the country has more urgent priorities

US President Joe Biden has urged the Congress to “stop playing games” and vote on a separate aid package for Ukraine as soon as possible to ensure that American support for Ukraine remains uninterrupted, after all new funding for Kiev was dropped from a stopgap bill that averted the government shutdown.

Speaking from the White House on Sunday after signing the last-minute government funding package that omitted assistance to Ukraine, Biden said that he expected the Republican House Speaker Keven McCarthy to “keep his commitment to secure passage and support needed to help Ukraine.”

“We have time, not much time, and there’s an overwhelming sense of urgency,” stressed Biden, “Stop playing games, get this done.”

“And I want to assure our American allies and the American people and the people of Ukraine that you can count on our support. We will not walk away,” he added. (Fuck you, America does support the Nazi regime Joe!)

However, critics long argued that Americans have more important priorities to worry about, and that Washington should have stronger safeguards against the misappropriation of the funds and supplies it sends to Kiev. Many lawmakers noted that winning approval for Ukraine assistance in the Congress is proving increasingly difficult.

Kevin McCarthy, the House GOP leader, said that while he remains committed to helping Ukraine, the US own security issues should be a “bigger priority for US lawmakers.”

“The American border matters and more Americans are dying on our border than Americans are dying in Ukraine,” said McCarthy in an interview with CBS on Sunday, and suggested that future financial packages for Ukraine must contain provisions to ensure American border security.

Washington has provided Ukraine with at least $46 billion in military supplies alone since the escalation of the conflict, in addition to many billions in other kinds of financial aid.

The head of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, Aleksey Danilov, suggested that the West should tell Kiev exactly how long it is planning to support it, as Kiev's backers have been unable to clearly define what their “as long as it takes” pledges mean.

The EU top diplomat insisted that the bloc's military aid to Ukraine will not depend on the decisions taken by the US. Brussels plans to continue and further increase its military assistance to the Ukrainian forces, Josep Borrell, told journalists during his visit to Kiev on Sunday.

(Can Bidans try to skip the country, he seems pretty desperate? What major dirt do they have on personally? Must be more than $3.5 million from Moscow’ governors wife!)

EU will back Ukraine without the US – Borrell

Brussels “regrets” the US Congress decision not to include military aid for Kiev in its spending bill, the EU top diplomat says

The EU's military aid to Ukraine will not depend on the decisions taken by the US, the bloc’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, told journalists during his visit to Kiev on Sunday. Brussels plans to continue and further increase its military assistance to the Ukrainian forces, he added.

“We have not waited for the [US] decision to be taken to increase our propositions to support Ukraine,” the official said when asked about the EU’s reaction to the US Congress removing military aid for Kiev from its short-time spending bill passed over the weekend.

Brussels still regretted the American lawmakers’ decision “deeply and thoroughly,”Borrell said, expressing his hope that “this will not be a definitive decision, and Ukraine will continue having the support of the US.”(it’s a definitive decision you parasite!)

The EU Commission had earlier proposed creating a fund for Ukraine worth €50 billion ($52.8 billion), the bloc’s top diplomat said, adding that he also suggested creating a similar fund amounting to €20 billion ($21.13 billion) within the European Peace Facility at an EU foreign ministers meeting in August.

“Let's see what'll be happening in the US but from our side, we will continue supporting and increasing our support,” the official said. The EU's top diplomat also maintained that the bloc’s military aid for Kiev is “permanent structured” and does not depend on the decisions of other nations or the results of the Ukrainian operations.

His comments came amid the continued Ukrainian offensive, which has failed to bring about any major changes to the frontlines over some four months since its launch, despite massive Western military aid before its start and heavy Ukrainian losses over its course.

“We are facing an existential threat for Europe,” Borrell claimed, adding that if Brussels wants the Ukrainian troops to be “more successful, we have to provide them with better arms and quicker.”

He still hinted that Kiev should be more grateful for the bloc’s efforts. In some cases, “our support is not being perceived as important as it is,” the EU top diplomat said, insisting that “it is.” He then said that the total military aid from Brussels and the EU member states to Ukraine amounted to €25 billion ($26.4 billion). The bloc’s cumulative military, financial and humanitarian support reached €85 billion ($89.8 billion), he added. (Pathetic the US has provided $200 billion and you are bragging about $26.4 billion. Trump is always right!)

(Is the EU being shamed by Trump’s statements, that should pay more than US? I think so, if they had an ounce of shame in them at all.)
