have had this occur near me TWICE

and it takes about ten hours from the time they shut off the nearest valves until the pipe evacuates

NEVER BEEN A FIRE

asshats from local volunteer FD tried to force me to evacuate

told me gas was denser than air and would creep along the ground until it found an ignition source

showed them my faculty ID and assured them gas is MUCH less dense than air, and goes straight up from the rupture

don't think they believed me, but they left me alone, which was all i cared about

if YOU don't believe me, fill a baloon from a gas tap and watch it rise to the ceiling
