So many of what people think are chemtrails are just contrails. As you say when the conditions are right the exhaust alone can trigger condensation and the cloud formation that remains. This can be seen where the trail ends at the edge of natural clouds. Other days when the air is dryer they evaporate rapidly.
Chemtrails do exist though, they leave trails regardless of conditions and are often seen laid out in gigantic triangular grid patterns.
I have noticed a marked decrease since Trump took office.
