Seattle sky lit up by Navy Parachute Team, not UFOs, during Sounders' fan appreciation day

Sun, October 8th 2023, 12:21 PM PDT

The Seattle Sounders gave their fans a special entrance before the game on fan appreciation day, but many Seattleites were left confused about the "flare-like" lights in the sky.

It wasn't a bird, technically was a plane, but definitely wasn't a UFO. Those bright lights in the sky were the Leap Frogs, a Navy Parachute Team.

"Um, what were those falling fireballs in the Seattle sky just now?" Mason Kidd said on X.

From the ground it looked as if a plane was on fire and then split into multiple pieces, which can be quite shocking to see with no context.

"At Climate Pledge in Seattle and just saw this plane seemingly on fire. In complete shock on how to process this," said Tyler Tello on X.

The following morning after the game, the Leap Frogs took to X to clear up any remaining confusion.

"No UFOs above Seattle just our entrance into Lumen Field to hand out carnations," the Navy Parachute Team said in an X post.

The Leap Frogs is a Navy Parachute Team comprised of Active-Duty SEALS, SWCC, EOD, & PRs that does jumps like the one into Lumen Field on a regular basis. In fact, the Lumen Field jump was their second jump on Saturday with their first being at San Francisco's Fleet Week.
