Terra is a multi-national, NASA scientific research satellite in a Sun-synchronous orbit around the Earth that takes simultaneous measurements of Earth's atmosphere, land, and water to understand how Earth is changing and to identify the consequences for life on Earth. It is the flagship of the Earth Observing System and the first satellite of the system which was followed by Aqua and Aura. Terra was launched in 1999. The name "Terra" comes from the Latin word for Earth.
The TerraMar Project was a self-described environmental nonprofit organization. It was founded in 2012 in the United States by Ghislaine Maxwell.[1][2] A sister organisation in the United Kingdom was incorporated in 2013.[3] TerraMar (U.S.) announced its closure on 12 July 2019. This was shortly after New York federal prosecutors arrested Maxwell's close associate Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein was a financier who was being charged with sex trafficking crimes for a second time.[4][5] TerraMar (UK) was officially dissolved on 3 December 2019.[3]
