Rockefeller Descendants Sell Historic Estate for $24M

Descendants of the Rockefeller oil magnate family have sold an historic estate in the Philadelphia area for $24 million, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The 200-acre Kirkwood Farm estate, which dates to the late 1700s and includes five farmhouses, two barns and a stream, had been listed for $29.9 million.
Descendants of William Rockefeller Jr., who build Standard Oil with his brother John D. Rockefeller, sold the estate, property records show. These heirs include William Rockefeller’s grandson Roy Jackson and his children.
In recent years, the family had been using the property as a hunting club and renting out several of the residences, which range in size from 1,750 to 2,900 square feet, several of which are fieldstone.
The buyer does not intend to develop the property, according to Kim Whetzel of Kurfiss Sotheby’s International Realty, who, along with colleague Ellen Hass, represented the buyer, whose identify has not been disclosed.
“It’s very gratifying when the sellers and the buyers want to save these properties and retain their magic,” Whetzel said.
