While the House of Representatives hangs in limbo until the next
Speaker is chosen, everything will be on the line in the days
immediately to come.
The "continuing resolution" on the budget will expire in
mid-November . . . right before Thanksgiving when many Americans
are focused on things other than the government.
Congress will have to pass some kind of budget or face another
"shutdown."
And while the Fed keeps printing money and Congress spending more
and more with no end in sight, our country may face a financial
crisis like never before.
In the Senate, Democrats appear to be planning for a single
spending bill known as an "omnibus" chock full of unprecedented
spending and waste.
Spending skyrocketed during the Covid crisis and never came back
down.
And the Republicans led by Mitch McConnell (R-KY) don't appear to
be working with House Republicans to figure out a plan forward.
In fact, Mitch McConnell seems more determined to work with
Senate Democrats to make sure even more money is extracted from
the American people to pay to continue their disastrous war in
Ukraine.
You don't need a crystal ball to see what will happen next.
When the threat of a shutdown gets close, Senate Majority Leader
Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will blame "those ultra MAGA Republicans in
the House."
Whoever ultimately becomes House Speaker will walk right into the
crisis as the Senate appears unwilling to cut any spending . . .
and many House Republicans don't really care to, either.
But if the next Speaker doesn't DEMAND real reforms and hold firm
even in the face of a shutdown, we're just going to drive off an
economic cliff.
