Former Barclay’s CEO Jes Staley Banned From Senior Banking Roles, Fined $2M for Misrepresenting Ties to Jeffrey Epstein: UK’S Financial Regulatory Body
Former JPMorgan Chase top executive and Ex-Barclays CEO Jes Staley is facing a lifetime ban from senior roles in financial services, as well as a 1.8 million pound ($2.21 million) fine by UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
The ban and the fine are for allegedly misleading the FCA over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

“‘The FCA has found that Mr Staley recklessly approved a letter sent by Barclays to the FCA, which contained two misleading statements, about the nature of his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and the point of their last contact’, [the FCA] said.”
Staley said that he was “very disappointed” by the FCA’s decision, and that he would continue to challenge it in court.
The Financial Conduct Authority is a financial regulatory body in the United Kingdom. It operates independently of the UK Government.
“‘If I had known who JE really was, there is absolutely no doubt that I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today’, he said in a statement issued by his law firm Arnold & Porter.”
The FCA findings are provisional, as Staley is appealing.
After considering the FCA’s findings, British Bank Barclay’s remuneration committee had decided that Staley should be ineligible for or forfeit bonuses and long-term incentives totaling 17.8 million pounds.
FCA: “‘We consider that [Staley] misled both the FCA and the Barclays Board about the nature of his relationship with Mr. Epstein’, said Therese Chambers, FCA joint executive director of enforcement and market oversight.”
In 2019, the FCA asked Barclays to explain what were the measures undertaken to assure itself that there was no impropriety in the relationship between Staley and Epstein.

IDF strikes hit Gaza evacuation convoys – Hamas
The UN has called Israel’s forced relocation order impossible and disastrous
Dozens of people, mostly women and children, have been injured and killed in Israeli airstrikes on evacuation convoys fleeing Gaza City, according to Hamas officials. The IDF has yet to respond to the accusations, after ordering more than 1 million people to leave the northern part of the enclave “to save their lives.”
The UN humanitarian body, OCHA, said several “vehicles of those evacuating the north were hit, killing more than 40 people and injuring 150 others,” citing data from health officials in the Hamas-governed Palestinian enclave.
“These incidents prompted many people to abandon their evacuation efforts and return home,” the UN agency added, as “heavy Israeli bombardments, from the air, sea and land, have continued almost uninterrupted.”
Hamas’ media office claimed on Friday that airstrikes hit civilian cars in three separate locations, allegedly killing 70 people. The Palestinian Health Ministry said that Al-Shifa Medical Complex was treating “dozens of victims” injured “as a result of the Israeli occupation forces targeting citizens who were forced to leave their homes.”
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has yet to comment on the allegations, and it is unclear whether militants were among the passengers of the convoys.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled south after Israel issued an order on Thursday night, initially giving Gaza residents 24 hours to evacuate from the north to “save their lives” ahead of an expected ground offensive, according to the UN. Prior to the evacuation order, more than 400,000 Palestinians had already been internally displaced.
The IDF called the evacuation order a “humanitarian step,” claiming that the residents would be able to return to Gaza City after Hamas militants were eradicated. The military did not mention any specific deadline, with a spokesperson acknowledging the evacuation would take “some time.”
Israel has faced widespread criticism from human rights organizations for the forced relocation order, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urging West Jerusalem to reconsider it, insisting that “even wars have rules” and telling all sides to respect international humanitarian norms.

The Walt Disney Company is donating $2 million to organisations providing humanitarian relief to those affected by the Palestinian resistance’s infiltration into settlements around the Gaza envelope.
“In the wake of the horrific terrorist attacks targeting Jews in Israel this past weekend, we must all do what we can to support the innocent people experiencing so much pain, violence, and uncertainty — particularly children,” said Bob Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Company.
“We condemn these attacks, the hate that motivated them, and all acts of terrorism, and we will continue working to find more ways to provide support in the region, and to honor the victims, their families, and all those affected by this war.”
It said some of the money would be given to non-profits who focus on providing aid to children.

Bluetongue disease, caused by bluetongue virus (BTV), affects ruminants, mainly sheep, with symptoms of fever, hemorrhages, depression, edemas, and generalized cyanosis, easily observed on the tongue, which explains the disease name.
The totally unexpected outbreak caused by a newly emerged BTV serotype led to a massive compulsory European vaccination campaign implemented between 2007 and 2010. The administered vaccine contained a new ingredient not used in previous BTV vaccines—aluminum (Al)—with 2.08 milligrams per milliliter as the adjuvant, in addition to inactivated BTV.

China's Birth Rate Plummets 10% To Lowest On Record
China's birthrate fell 10% last year to its lowest level on record, a significant drop in spite of extensive efforts by the CCP to encourage people to get busy.
The country had just 9.56 million births in 2022, the lowest figure since they began keeping records in 1949, according to a report by the National Health Commission.

According to the report, the demographic downturn is largely thanks to China's one-child policy imposed between 1980 and 2015. Nearly 40% of Chinese babies last year were the second child of a married couple, while 15% were from families with three or more children.

Over 70 killed after Israeli strikes hit convoy of civilians fleeing Gaza
At least 70 civilians, mostly women and children, have been killed in an airstrike by Israeli forces while attempting to flee Gaza.
As many as 200 people have also been injured by the strikes after three convoys carrying evacuees were struck while heading towards southern Gaza Valley after being given 24 hours to vacate the area by Israeli forces.
Hamas officials initially reported the strikes, which have since been corroborated by the Palestinian Health Authority and independent journalists.
Now shocking footage of the aftermath (warning: graphic content) of the strikes has emerged, depicting a bombed-out street littered with burning cars and bloodied bodies as a survivor makes their way through the wreckage.
Meanwhile, sirens can be heard in the distance while a truck loaded with dead or wounded bodies can be seen driving past.
It is not yet clear who the intended target of the airstrikes was, or whether militants were among the passengers.
Following initial reports of the strikes, IDF Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner told Sky News the IDF is ‘looking into the circumstances’
‘I’m not aware of any IDF strikes at this time to that location but we will be updating throughout the day,’ he said.
However, Col Parker also claimed that ‘Hamas was booby trapping roads’ and that ‘we need to be cautious in judging before we know the facts’.
Israeli air raids have killed at least 256 people, including 20 children, and wounded 1,788 others in the last 24 hours, according to hospitals in Gaza.
Thousands of Palestinians have since fled to southern Gaza in search of refuge on Friday after Israel called for 1.1 million of them to evacuate ahead of an expected ground offensive.
But the evacuation order has been condemned by the United Nations and the World Health Organisation, who have called on Israel to revoke the order immediately, saying it will result in a humanitarian disaster whether people can flee or not.
‘The noose around the civilian population in Gaza is tightening. How are 1.1 million people supposed to move across a densely populated warzone in less than 24 hours?’ U.N. aid chief Martin Griffiths wrote on social media.

This months' closures come after an exclusive poll by DailyMail.com revealed that 51 percent of consumers said they were very or somewhat concerned about the declining number of bank branches. Only 18 percent said they were not at all concerned.
The survey also found that brick-and-mortar services are less accessible to black Americans. While 14 percent of black Americans said they did not have a local branch, that was only the case for 8 percent of white Americans.
In March Senator Sherrod Brown sent a letter to the OCC wanting to launch an inquiry into the impact of such closures on lower income communities.
When banks close a branch, they must notify the OCC. In a statement to DailyMail.com in August, a spokesperson said: 'The OCC understands the importance of bank branches and is committed to supporting access to banking services in all communities.'
They also noted that although banks and credit unions need to notify their 'primary regulator of closures', the statute that requires them to do so does not allow the regulator to object to the closure.
It also noted that the OCC does not regulate all banks in the US.
Data from S&P Global Market Intelligence shows a total of 1,144 national and regional banks were closed between January 1 and July 31 across 49 states - with firms pulling out of some areas at a faster rate than others.

While the world watches Israel's military pulverize Gaza amid anticipation of an imminent ground invasion of the besieged strip, Israeli soldiers and settlers—who are receiving thousands of assault rifles from the government—have killed dozens of Palestinians in the illegally occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem over the past week, officials there said on Friday.
At around 5:00 pm local time, the Palestinian Health Ministry said that 11 people were killed by Israeli occupation forces and settler-colonists in the West Bank and East Jerusalem so far on Friday, raising the death toll there to 46 and the number of wounded to over 700 since Hamas and other Gaza-based militants launched a massive cross-border attack on southern Israel last weekend, killing more than 1,300 Israeli soldiers and civilians.
