Most people have been lost for most of their lives for many, many generations. That doesn't mean most lived their lives in a bad way; they didn't. They lived their lives as good as possible with a skewed understanding of objective reality, though. And it would seem the harder rationality pushes to take back control from the programming, the harder the programming pushes back. I'm not sure if this reaffirms that it "had to be this way" or not, but it was an interesting way of saying "this is how they keep people in the dark" in regards to wars and why people pick sides in them.
