Judge Tanya Chutkan, an Obama appointee, just imposed a gag order on Donald Trump. He will not be allowed to comment about Special Counsel Jack Smith or his staff, court staff (not sure if that means her) and “potential witnesses” in the case.

🍌republic.

She will file full order later today. Chutkan claimed her order was to prevent Trump from launching a “pre trial smear campaign” that poses a “danger to the administration of justice.”

I’m sure Trump will immediately appeal but no high hopes for DC Circuit to reverse.

This means the next few months before trial will be filled with motions and hearings related to allegations by DOJ that Trump violated the order.

A massive contempt trap in addition to the unprecedented silencing of a candidate for president.

'Operation: Promised Land' Rescues 270 Americans From Israel

By Aleks Phillips On 10/16/23 at 7:50 AM EDT

Some 270 American evacuees, including 92 children and two dogs, have safely returned to the United States from Israel following the outbreak of violence in the region, a charity established to save civilians from conflict zones has announced.

Project Dynamo, which was established to save American citizensafter the U.S. Armed Forces pulled out ofAfghanistan in August 2021, said late on Sunday night that a flight from its "Operation: Promised Land" had touched down in Tampa, Florida, around 8 p.m. ET.

Flight tracking shows the EuroAtlantic Boeing 777 aircraft departed Tel Aviv around 10:39 a.m. local time on Sunday morning, stopping in Porto, Portugal, in the early afternoon before continuing on to the U.S. Project Dynamo said it was the charitable organization's 602nd mission to date.

Since areas across Israel were attacked by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants on October 7, many commercial flights in and out of the country have been canceled. In the days since the surprise assault, there have been continued air strikes and rocket attacks from both Israel and Hamas.

As of Monday, more than 4,000 people have died in the conflict, according to the Associated Press. The Gaza Health Ministry said 2,750 Palestinians have been killed and 9,700 wounded, while over 1,400 Israelis have been killed, and at least 199 others, including children, have been taken hostage by militants, according to Israel.

U.S. citizens evacuated from Israel are seen during a stopover in Porto, Portugal, on their way to Tampa, Florida, on October 15, 2023. Their rescue was part of "Operation: Promised Land." Project Dynamo

"We've been here for over a week, since the day after the big massacre, and we're excited to get home, we're excited to get these people out and we're excited to pull this operation off," Bryan Stern, the founder and CEO of Project Dynamo, said while traveling on a bus with the evacuees to the flight in Israel on Sunday morning.

Newsweek reached out to Project Dynamo via email for comment on Monday.

Stern also personally thanked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for his assistance in the rescue operation through the signing of an executive order earlier in the week.

The Republican presidential candidate appeared with his wife at the welcome tent for the flight to greet those arriving in the U.S. after ordering the suspension of "the effect of any statute, rule, or order that would in any way prevent, hinder, or delay any mitigation, response, or recovery action necessary to cope with this emergency" on Thursday.

The executive order declared a state of emergency in Florida, noting the state's large Jewish population and threats made in recent days in relation to the conflict. Speaking on the tarmac as the evacuees disembarked, DeSantis said: "There was a devoid of leadership, so we step [sic] up and led."

Why are US lawmakers displaying other nations’ flags and wearing foreign military uniforms inside the Capitol?

October 16, 2023 (16 hours ago)

It’s totally natural for Americans and people all over the world to feel immense sympathy and sorrow for the ongoing fighting in the Middle East. This region has been a hotbed of conflict since Biblical times and shows no signs of slowing anytime soon. While feelings on these distant matters may vary, we can universally agree that the murder of innocent people and brutal acts of Islamic terrorism should never be condoned or celebrated by any civilized society. And though the temptation to pick a side—be it Israel or Palestine—can be tempting, it’s crucial that our leaders remain focused on the most important priority: America.

Unfortunately, it seems that many of our lawmakers are losing sight of this and are very distracted by the unrest in the Middle East, and as a result, they’re drifting further from the “America First” agenda that prioritizes we, the people, over government bureaucrats and political elites.

For more than a week, we’ve witnessed impassioned social media posts and speeches from politicians about the Israel and Palestine conflict, empathizing with the victims and condemning terrorism. But where are the fervent speeches addressing the rising death toll in liberal-run cities or the homeless veterans sleeping on the streets while illegals are put up in nice hotels?

And why did we spend days discussing the Palestinian flag outside Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s office? All while many Americans struggle to afford basic groceries, thanks to Biden’s faltering economy.Clearly, it’s not appropriate to showcase another country’s flag in the esteemed halls of Congress, especially when America is facing such challenges.

But it’s not just Rashida who’s guilty of this. Rep. Brian Mast wore his Israeli military uniform inside the Capitol as a form of “protest” against Rashida’s Palestinian flag. Good Lord, what on earth are we doing here? If you ask us, the best way to protest a foreign flag is to remind people what country they’re in and hand them an American flag. Meanwhile, a United States congressman wearing another country’s military uniform inside the Capitol building—ally or not—isn’t the answer.

Perhaps individuals serving in Congress shouldn’t hold dual citizenshipif they can’t maintain their focus at home. It’s time for every member of Congress to set aside the flags of other nations, remove the foreign uniforms, and refocus their attention on America and the laundry list of challenges and problems we face here at home. Lord knows we have enough turmoil and chaos to keep us occupied for the foreseeable future.

Rand Paul On Israel-Palestine: "I'm Not Really For Funding Either Side"

by Tyler Durden Sunday, Oct 15, 2023 - 06:05 PM

As the death toll soars on both sides of the Israel-Palestine chaos, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul told ZeroHedge that he’s not too keen on involving the U.S. in the Middle Eastern conflict.

“I’m not really for funding either side,” the senator said.“Israel is a rich country. I think they can afford to do most things.”(exactly what this anon and others have said for years, why are we paying for their problems)

If the Speaker situation in the House is resolved next week, Paul is concerned Congress will exploit the nascent war to goad lawmakers into funding Washington’s other proxies.

“The rumor is they’re going to put Ukraine aid with Israel aid with Taiwan aid, and so God knows how big this thing will be,” he said. “It’s like a $50 billion-dollar bill, all outside the spending caps they passed two months ago andmakes a mockery that we really have any rules or fiscal restraint over here.”

“I will oppose it,” Paul said but added that he could support some foreign aid as long as it is paid for through other funding cuts. The hands-off approach to foreign policy - one that allows other nations to work out disputes for themselves - is reminiscent of the senator’s father, former Congressman Ron Paul (R-Tex.), who in 2009 said Gaza resembled a “concentration camp” and that U.S. policy exacerbated tensions by establishing a power imbalance in favor of Israel, which removes their incentive to “work out problems”:

“Israel knows… that we [United States] will do whatever is necessary to bail out Israel.” “I think there is an argument for when you have unlimited support for one side,” Rand Paul said, responding to his father’s 2009 interview.“It does give people a disincentive to negotiate.”

Drawing parallels to the war in Ukraine, Sen. Paul highlighted that U.S. support for the country, which is purported to help the Ukrainian people, actually achieves the opposite. “Particularly with Ukraine, I think it goes on forever if we keep supplying it,” Paul said.

“Ultimately if you cared anything about the Ukrainian economy, the people, and the industry over there, you shouldn’t want a war that goes on forever.” “That just becomes Afghanistan, so I have advocated for negotiation over there.”

However, back in Israel, the Senator cast doubt on the likelihood of diplomacy prevailing in this environment. “There are times in which it’s easier to talk about negotiation and times in which it’s harder,” he said. “Frankly, right now if you talk about negotiating with Hamas, it’s surreal in a sense because they just mowed down 260 people at a music concert.”

Paul said Hamas is too radical to trust as a good-faith negotiator, pointing to the competing Gazan faction, the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), as the “more reasonable voice” because it recognizes Israel’s right to statehood.

Comer demands answers from special counsel Hur about Biden's 'influence peddling schemes'

"The committee is concerned that President Biden may have retained sensitive documents related to specific countries involving his family’s foreign business," Comer wrote.

Updated: October 16, 2023 3:10pm

House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer on Monday sent a letter demanding answers from special counsel Robert Hur, who is overseeing a probe into President Joe Biden's alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Comer, a Kentucky Republican, wrote that the "evidence suggests President Biden may have used certain members of his family – particularly his son, Hunter Biden – to accumulate millions of dollars from foreign individuals and entities for the benefit of his family and himself."

Comer letter to Hur 10.16.23.pdf

The letter also reads: "Biden family members, their business associates, and their related companies received significant payments from individuals and companies in China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Romania. In addition, other evidence recently released by the Ways and Means Committee identified over 20 different countries with ties to the Biden family’s influence peddling schemes."

Biden has not been charged since classified documents were found on several occasions from November 2022 through January 2023 at his former office in Washington, D.C., as well as at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, but he was interviewed for several days earlier this month in the probe.

"If any of the classified documents mishandled by President Biden involved countries or individuals that had financial dealings with Biden family members or their related companies, the committee needs access to that information to evaluate whether our national security has been compromised," Comer also wrote.

"The Committee is concerned that President Biden may have retained sensitive documents related to specific countries involving his family’s foreign business."

He concluded the letter by asking Hur to provide unredacted information about the probe by Oct. 30.
