I reply to your post in the spirit of starting a meaningful dialogue.
The Rosary is basically Mary's story of Jesus. It's full title is: The Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Rosaries are not to worn as jewelry, and Catholics are instructed to keep them in their pockets when not in use. There's an expression of humility and respect to not attract attention away from the center of the Universal Church, Jesus. These attitudes are taught to our children as soon as they learn how to pray.
Although I do love Melania, It's not cool for her to wear it. I forgive her, and pray her and her family are protected from the real danger they're in. In nomine Patris, Et Filii, Et Spiritus Sancti.
The most important behavior is peace. And I'm just chillin'. We're cool. But I have have to protect His Church. And maybe you can talk to a regular traditional Catholic member anonymously. There's a lot of ways Catholicism is practiced, and since it's a VERY old church, a lot of stuff is forgotten (including the attitude in the way this stuff is approached).
In John 19:26โ27 we read, โWhen Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, โWoman, here is your son,โ and to the disciple, โHere is your mother.โ From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.โ
Since our commandments include honoring our mother, and Jesus gave Mary to John, He gave Mary to us. Catholics consider it important to honor the Mom of all Moms as you should love your own mother. Any knee-jerk reaction accusing Catholics of worshiping Mary is an error, and divides us just like the accuser wishes to do. Don't fall for his clever tricks.
Collyridianism is considered Heresy. The story goes deep, and I can get side tracked by talking about Momma. Thank you for your patience.
Back on track:
I will describe only the traditional minimal way the story goes for sake of keeping this lengthy reply trimmed.
The story is 15 parts, and typically divided by 3. So you have three "chapters" of this story containing 5 parts. Each part is called a decade. Each "chapter is called a Mystery. I'm only interested in covering the story, and not how the Rosary is Prayed.
The first "chapter" is called The Joyful Mysteries. This is the Baby-Jesus part, and should be approached with a spirit of the Mother-Son bond wish is very warming.
-
The Annunciation - This is the encounter of Mary with Archangel Gabriel. It is notable here how Archangel Gabriel addresses her: "full of grace"
-
The Visitation - When Mary and St. Elizabeth met.
-
The Nativity - His birth.
-
The Presentation - When Mary brought Jesus to the Temple for the offering, and ran into Simeon.
-
The Finding in the Temple - When 12 year old Jesus bailed on Mary and Joseph in Jerusalem.
The second "chapter" is called the Sorrowful Mysteries. Which goes over His Passion. We contemplate how horrible it was for Mary to experience all this, but she never left his side. All of His Disciples bailed like cowards, but Mary didn't give a fuck. Fuck all those Centurions, Fuck all the stupid bullshit, she didn't give a fuck. She stayed with him as much as she could. The way a mother should be, by her son's side even as he's being tortured. She is so humble, that she didn't let her feelings get in the way of being with Him.
We, more importantly, contemplate what Jesus has to go through because of our sins, and should be inspired to behave for his sake. The less we sin, the less Jesus suffers, and the less bullshit we put our mothers through. The sacredness of the family is also another important consideration.
-
The Agony in the Garden - Where Jesus sweat blood in the Garden at Gethsemane.
-
The Scourging of Jesus at the Pillar - what hate does
-
The Crowning of Thorns - what mocking does
-
Jesus Carries His Cross - You gotta deal with your bullshit
-
The Crucifixion - Jesus loves you so much he did all this for you.
The third "chapter" is called The Glorious Mysteries. This is the story from His Resurrection, to when Mary is considered Queen of Heaven. This is a debated topic, but it's a Catholic belief that in Revelation 12, Mary is represented Symbolically for lack of an in depth theological argument.
-
The Resurrection - Christians must believe in the Resurrection of the Dead and have a strong Faith
-
The Ascension - Be Hopeful, Long for Heaven
-
The Descent of the Holy Ghost - Promises Kept, focus on Charity
-
The Assumption - Mary goes to Heaven - Focus on a happy death.
-
The Crowning of the Blessed Virgin - Love Her, She loves you. She does a lot for you. The End.
