Why has the Gaza ground invasion been delayed since Friday? - analysis

Is Hezbollah waiting to strike until forces are in a Gaza quagmire?

It seemed crystal clear on Thursday: the IDF counter-invasion of Gaza would start either Friday or Saturday. The IDF had given certain deadlines for Palestinians to evacuate northern Gaza, with the deadlines expiring by midday Friday.

The drum beat toward an invasion had started as early as Sunday-Monday and was only getting louder, with the air force having already paved the way with several days of withering bombing. Yet, now we have arrived at late Monday, and if anything,the signs (which could also be psychological warfare) are that the invasion is further away, and not yet imminent.

What changed?

A number of factors seem to have caused a delay, but sources have told The Jerusalem Post that one factor has been a growing concern that Hezbollah is waiting for the moment that most IDF ground forces are committed to Gaza to open a full front with the IDF in the north.

In this narrative, the fact that Hezbollah did not engage at the start of the war Saturday morning and has kept its attacks on Israel at a fairly low threshold does not prove that it is deterred but ispart of an elaborate fake-out to lure the IDF into a false sense of security, similar to what Hamas pulled off in the south.

As fodder for such suspicions, sources would note thatIsraeli intelligence and the political echelon must have a new level of humilityabout their assessments of enemy intentions after missing the boat regarding Hamas in the south.

This will not stop the IDF from invading Gaza, but it may have caused a delay to better double-check signs regarding Hezbollah's intentions as well as to further reinforce the northern forces in case the worst comes to pass.

There is also a deepening recognition in the IDF and at the political level, that the IDF has not done anything like this in decades, and that rushing in unprepared, simply to more quickly satisfy the wider population's thirst for retribution, could be a large mistake.

In this perspective, the 2006 Second Lebanon War ground invasion was a complete mess, with the airpower being the successful part, with both the 2008-9 and 2014 invasions of Gaza being more symbolic.

In other words, with all of the many "rounds" of conflict, the IDF should not be overconfident about its talent at conducting large land invasion operations.

Strategy against Hamas

While achieving strategic "surprise" would be impossiblegiven that Hamas started this war, the IDF would also like to achieve at least a tactical surprise against Hamas, which requires planning.

A number of other delaying factors could be US pressure to avoid civilian casualties, domestic concerns about Israeli hostages in Gaza, and giving more time for Palestinians to evacuate.

Another factor is the US and world response to date. Currently, Israel feels huge support and like it has more time to work with to deal with Hamas.One question that arises at this point though is whether top IDF and civilian leaders are misjudging the clock.

According to Hamas' numbers, already a couple thousand Palestinians are dead and many more wounded. In 2014, when 2,000 Palestinians were killed, at least half were civilians despite the IDF's attempts to avoid civilian casualties. Such is the fog of war.

The second that those numbers balloon, which will likely be when the invasion starts in a real way,there will be powerful US and world pressure to stop.

Also, the Post has confirmed from many sources thatno one has yet decided what will happen to Gaza after the IDF will supposedly topple Hamas' rule.

This and all of the other above factors have left top Israeli officials huffing and puffing for new superlatives for what they will do to Hamas…while still basically having done very little new for about a week.

Only after the war will we know whether this extra time was spent wisely crafting a smarter and more effective invasion and post-invasion plan, or whether the delay will be looked back on as having wasted precious days to "change the reality in Gaza" and avoid future near term Hamas attacks.

No rational person should endorse or celebrate Islamic terror attacks against innocent civilians.

Regardless of your stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, cheering and flag-waving have no place when radicals are killing innocents, including children and the elderly. While many such celebrations are being quashed globally, the United States is an exception because we have the First Amendment.

Chicago is a hotspot—evidently, there’s not enough death and destruction going on there.

As you might expect, London—known for its absurd “Refugees Welcome” stance—also saw massive pro-Palestinian gatherings. Officials issued a warning, stating that any “pro-Hamas” sentiment wouldn’t be tolerated. Naturally, this muddies the water, given that Hamas governs and controls Palestine.

Macron actually banned all pro-Palestinian marches in France; however, that didn’t stop hordes of people from marching in Paris anyway.

And speaking of Paris and beyond, some of the top tourist attractions in the country were evacuated, thanks to bomb threats that had people scattering like scared rats. Diversity certainly is exciting, isn’t it?

In Rome, a pro-Palestinian march spiraled out of control. As you can see in the video, Italian police officers are actively pushing back against the disorderly protesters and using their night sticks to strike them.

The sad truth is that all of this chaos, danger, and turmoil is a direct result of the “diversity” that’s been generously thrust upon us all. Instead of these biblical fights staying where they belong, thousands of miles away, they’ve spread like wildfire throughout the Western world, and now all of our lives are at risk.Diversity is going to kill us.

Justice Department Seeking Stronger Prison Sentences for Proud Boys Members

The DOJ filed notice that it wants the US Court of Appeals in DC to help impose longer sentences for Enrique Tarrio, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl, Dominic Pezzola and Ethan Nordean

The Justice Department on Monday filed notice it plans to appeal and seek harsher prison sentences for five members of the Proud Boys who are already incarcerated for their convictions tied to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

In five separate filings, DOJ indicated it would seek intervention from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia to obtain longer sentences for the leaders of the far-right group: Enrique Tarrio, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl, Dominic Pezzola and Ethan Nordean.

DOJ had initially requested more prison time for all five of the Proud Boys members: They'd asked for 33-year sentences for both Tarrio and Biggs; 30 years for Rehl; 27 years for Nordean; and 20 years for Pezzola.

Instead, U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Kelly in September gave Tarrio a 22-year sentence and he put Biggs behind bars for 17 years.

Nordean, a Proud Boys chapter president from Auburn, Wash., got an 18-year sentence that covers charges including obstructing an official proceeding and seditious conspiracy.

Rehl, the former leader of the group's Philadelphia chapter who pepper sprayed a police officer in the face, is now serving a 15-year prison sentence. Pezzola got 10 years in prison for smashing a U.S. Capitol window, ushering rioters into the building and taking a police officer's shield.

All five men are currently incarcerated at FDC Philadelphia, according to the Justice Department. They have also all appealed their sentences in September to the same U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C.

(How does the public impeach justices, they will not obey the law in their rulings. They get away with it because the cost of challenging the court in more filings costs an arm and leg.The DOJ has radicalized all courts.)

FL teacher brutally beaten by 280-pound student refuses to help lawyers lighten his sentence…

Around seven months ago, a teacher in Orlando, Florida, was viciously attacked by a lumbering 6’6″, 270-pound crazed student. Thankfully, she’s made the right call by refusing to help his defense team eek out a shorter sentence. The student, whose name is Brendan Depa, was 17 at the time he unleashed the horrific attack on Joan Naydich, a teacher at Matanzas High School. The video shows him throwing her down like a rag doll, kicking and punching her multiple times in her back and head until staff finally intervened and pulled the massive

goon off of her.

According to Depa, his violent attack was sparked by the teacher telling him to stop gaming on his Nintendo Switch.The teacher says that never happened.Perhaps the attack was race-driven? We’ll likely never know. Depa was charged as an adult and is nowstaring down the barrel of a potential 30-year prison sentence, and the teacher is perfectly fine with that and not willing to help get that sentence reduced.

Good for her.

According to Flagler Live, Naydich has “shown no interest in mitigating what penalties Depa might face.”

The autistic teen — who will plead guilty to avoid trial — was initially charged as a juvenile in the case before the raps were upgraded.

Still, Judge Terrence Perkins still has the option of sentencing him as a youth — and meting out a penalty as low as probation. The teen’s disabilities will likely weigh on his decision.

Now 18, Depa had three prior battery arrests before the shocking February attack on Naydich, who was treated at a hospital after the assault.

Flagler Live also reported that Depa got into a brawl in jail just last month.

Depa, who stands 6-foot-6, reportedly threatened to kill Naydich during his arrest.

It was initially reported Naydich had personally confiscated the Nintendo device from him, but she denied doing so in subsequent interviews.

It took a team of four adults to pry this lumbering madman off the poor teacher. Frankly, society would be better off if this unhinged, habitual offender faced a stiff sentence. Kudos to this brave woman for taking a stand. It’s refreshing, particularly these days, when thugs like this skate by with barely a slap on the wrist.

Israel and Colombia in diplomatic spat over Gaza conflict

Bogota’s top diplomat says Israel’s ambassador should ‘apologize and leave’ after harsh words for the Latin American country’s president

Colombian Foreign Minister Alvaro Leyva said Monday that Israel’s ambassador in Bogota Gali Dagan should “apologize and leave the country” after criticizing the position taken by President of Colombia Gustavo Petro on the IDF-Hamas conflict in Gaza. The minister noted that the envoy will not be expelled, but advised Dagan to respect the host-country’s president as is mandatory in diplomatic relations.

On Sunday, Dagan replied to Petro’s publication on X (formerly Twitter) in which the Colombian claimed thatPalestinian militant group Hamas was an invention of Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency. The envoy wrote sarcastically that “it is true.” He added: “I would like to share with you additional information from our intelligence services, which are some of the best in the world: The Elders of Zion founded the Gulf Clan. There are still Jews, with large, aquiline noses, who command the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia.”

The bitter diplomatic spat between the two nations began a day after October 7, when the Palestinian armed group Hamas launched a surprise attack on civilian and military targets in neighboring Israel from Gaza and took dozens of hostages. Israel, in response, launched retaliatory airstrikes on the enclave.

Commenting on X about the escalation, Petro wrote that he’d been studying the Gaza conflict since his early years and knew that the Palestinian people had suffered “immense injustice.” The South American leader notedthat now the “neo-Nazis” want the “destruction of the Palestinian people, freedom and culture.”

On October 9, Israel announced a “total”blockade of Gaza, including a ban on food, electricity and fuel. Israel’s defense minister commented that his country was fighting “beastly people.”

Colombia’s leader in response wrote “this is what the Nazis said about the Jews,” noting that “democratic societies cannot allow Nazism to reestablish itself in international politics” and that a discourse of hate would bring “a holocaust.”

The Colombia-Israel dispute intensified Sunday when Israel publicly condemned Petro’s statements. Petro’s words “inflame antisemitism, harm representatives of the State of Israel and threaten the safety of the Jewish community in Colombia,” the country’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

Colombia’s ambassador to Israel Margarita Manjarrez was summoned for an official reprimand, at which she was informed that defense cooperation between the countries would be suspended. Israel has been one of Bogota’s largest suppliers of weapons to fight drug cartels and rebel groups.

Later that day, Petro responded to Israel’s decision to stop security exports to Colombia, with a post on X saying “If we must suspend diplomatic relations with Israel, then that is what we will do.” He also called on Latin America to “show solidarity” with his country.

The unexpected rocket and ground assault on Israel from Gaza has sparked days of fighting, with Israel responding with retaliatory airstrikes on the Palestinian enclave and vowing to eliminate Hamas. Israeli officials say the death toll has reached about 1,400, while the Palestinian Health Ministry has reported more than 2,800 deaths in Gaza.

Putin comments on planned new mega gas pipeline

The proposed Power of Siberia 2 will deliver natural gas to China via Mongolia

All stakeholders in the plannedPower of Siberia 2 pipeline– which will deliver Russian gas to China through Mongolia – are behind the project, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed on Tuesday.

The Russian president was speaking during a meeting with his Mongolian counterpart Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh on the sidelines of the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing.

“We have significant projects, multifaceted, including jointly with the People's Republic of China, I mean, for example, the construction of a gas pipeline system through Mongolia to China. All parties want to participate, want to work [in this project]. It's a matter of implementation, I think we will move at a good pace,” Putin noted.

The proposed pipeline would bring gas from the Yamal peninsula, which, prior to the Ukraine conflict, used to serve the EU market through several pipelines, including Nord Stream, whose flows shrank before it was blown up last September.

Natural gas from the fields in Western Siberia will flow to China, the world's top energy importer and a growing gas consumer, traversing Mongolia.

The mega gas pipeline project is designed to transform energy flows across Asia, as Russia is steering towards greater energy cooperation with Beijing and other eastern markets.

Moscow intends to increase pipeline gas supplies to China by 50 billion cubic meters (bcm) annually via Power of Siberia 2, while the existing Power of Siberia pipeline is due to provide 38 bcm a year by 2025.

(The EU and the West pushed Russia together with China and now the EU will never be trusted again. Scholz will have a resounding defeat in Germany. And the US loses money from the EU dystopia.)
