I am not at all sure I'd want Gowdy now on SCOTUS. He's never been a judge. We don't know how he would rule on actual cases. He's never been in a senior policy making role either. He's just a congressman, not a senator.
If we really like him, appoint him to an Appeals Court seat and see how he does there. But there are other good judges who have done that job, shown they support conservative decisions, shown they can write. Those are much more ready now for SCOTUS.
