Aldine ISD to revisit eminent domain decision regarding longtime resident Travis Upchurch
Six months after voting to pursue eminent domain proceedings against a longtime resident who lives near a football stadium that's being rebuilt, which prompted pushback from the man's family and other community members, trustees for Aldine ISD will revisit the issue Tuesday night.
Board members for the Houston-area school district are expected to consider and act on a board resolution related to the acquisition of Travis Upchurch's property at 1810 Aldine Meadows Rd., where the 79-year-old retired carpenter has lived for the last 46 years. The 1-acre tract of land has been owned by Upchurch's family for more than a century, according to his adult children, who have said their family is willing to sell the property to Aldine ISD after Upchurch dies or at least work out an arrangement that would allow him to continue living there.
