Math Things About Missing 8 But Not Number 9.

A long time ago when I used my Casio Calculator in school, someone showed me something strange!

Actually any calculator or app will do.

The instructions were simple, to type in digits 1 to 9 and skip number 8.

Once I did that, I needed to press the Multiplication Symbol.

The next step was for me to say what SINGLE DIGIT number I wanted to see 9 times on the screen!

I said number 7 in which case I needed to type into the calculator, number 63, then press the Equal Sign.

Sure enough, I noticed number 7 seen NINE TIMES on my display: 777777777

I WAS AMAZED. And Confused. I know it's not a trick, but some type of math thing.

Once I got home, I tried it again KNOWINGLY which 'calculator number' to use.

I picked number 3, to see it my calculator would show it nine times.

My calculator did indeed show: 333333333

Math Thing = Use a single digit number and multiply it by NINE to get the 'calculator number' to use.

To clarify, if you want to see a bunch of 3's, then 3 x 9 = 27, hence 12345679 x 27 = 333333333

Addendum:

If you try to use two digits instead of a single digit, answers are more complex.

For example, lets try the Letter Q (aka 17).

Well them 17 x 9 = 153

Calculator time: 12345679 x 153 = 1888888887

The above shows EIGHT 8's between number 17, ten digits in total.

When you add up the single digits of 1888888887 you get number 72, for which Q Post 72 is attached.

And since so much stretchy math is involved, lets add up digits 72 to attach Q Post 9, because 7 + 2 = NINE.

The not obvious thing is that the first number 1 and last number 7 has the sum of 8, notwithstanding the 8 digits of number 8 within them.
