why would Fournier make it up whole-cloth? presumably, he had sources telling him this.

why would sources tell him this, then?

possibilities:

1. it is true, and meadows, jack smith, and chris wray (comey) shit themselves and disavowed any of it when it was leaked. possibly they taped POTUS and only ever meant to use the material, but not the fact of the taping, since that would (as Fournier said) destroy them all.

1. It was a trap by meadows for the FIB and company to fall into, and they did, and now meadows and POTUS have their balls in a sling and smith will drop all charges.

1. the sources wanted to take down Fournier for other stories he may be developing that they want to scuttle.

other possibilities too, but these are the top of my list
