Bowling alley shooting. Iran says the US will not be spared. No spare. It was a strike. Jet ski getaway. Just like the Ukranian commandos were reported striking the Russian navy base less than a week before.

They had to strike a balance between telling a complete lie to the public and letting just enough of the truth through to let the Iranians know that we know it was them. Was in the Army. Just not the the US Army. Also saying he was in the Army allows them to build a fictional character that they need to pull this off and hopefully keep it secret. Army just follows orders. Much better chance of keeping a lid on it than saying he worked for home depot or something in the private sector. This bears all the earmarks of the classic comms/disinformation op combination.

The only photo to pay attention to is the one of him coming through the front door with rifle. And he even looks Iranian in that one.
