To win this fight, it's important to stay grounded in the real world and to appreciate the good things we have right now, even if the future is uncertain. There's lots of ways to do this, like going for a walk, talking to a friend or neighbour or enjoying a good meal.

One of my favourite self-care practices is something I call Comfort Baking. It basically just means baking something delicious and then eating it - pretty simple, right? But there's a lot of powerful medicine in something so simple. It activates the senses: touch, smell, taste. It provides a calming loop for the brain & body, a reassuring rhythm that communicates to the subconscious mind that everything is OK. It teaches you to wait for the baking to be done, because good things often take time to cook properly.

Right now I have my favourite banana bread recipe baking in the oven. This one has a couple of extra steps and takes a while but it's worth it for the rich, decadent result. It's a real treat.

Here's the banana bread, fresh from the oven.

Now comes the hardest part: waiting for it to cool even though it smells so good!

But the truth is that, even though It's out of the oven, the centre of the bread is still cooking from the residual heat and the loaf needs some time to complete its alchemical transformation before it's ready.
