EU is going full-retard on this one and will try to compensate the dissolution of NATO via its own military construction (PESCO / EU Army).

Italy is the US advanced base against Russia. It was said that whoever would get elected in Italy, it would still be a scam because none of the political parties talked about leaving NATO.

Now the US is more or less talking about ceasing NATO. So there will no longer be any reason to maintain such a military presence in Italy. Italy may be an important key in future EU decisions. Maybe preventing the European Union from pursuing the anti-Russia narrative.

The EU army concept was especially pushed by Merkel/Macron. Germany wanted to take the leadership of NATO, foreseeing the retraction of US from the alliance, but Merkel may be out soon.
