where i come from we put little boxes at the cash out in the supermarket with a picture of the person in need and people can throw in their change. this is even better than gofundme. this way people helped to buy wheel chairs and and fund all sorts of surgery or special treatment. and there is also a collection initiative where people collect the caps of for example water bottles and sell it because it's a special plastic that is expensive. this way it was possible to buy some ambulance cars in little towns and special cars for handicap people
