Director Wray [Senate hearing]: I am concerned that foreign terrorist organizations, traditional, formal terrorist organizations, whether they be Al-Qaeda, or ISIS, or Hezbollah, have all made statements that would indicate a greater risk of a potential attack here by them. We are not currently tracking an imminent credible threat from a foreign terrorist organization, a structured attack here, or something like that, but it is something that we think heightened vigilance is warranted for.

Hawley: A whistleblower from Homeland Security Investigations has come to me and said that special agents who are working on child trafficking cases and Fentanyl interdiction cases have been pulled off of their investigations and sent to the southern border. Hundreds, and hundreds, and hundreds of these agents at a time…she said, 'we're being told to shut down investigations, to go hand out sandwiches, and escort migrants to the shower, and sit with them while they're in the hospital, and those types of tasks.'…what is going on?

Mayorkas: You are incorrect, senator.

Hawley: Is she wrong? This is one of your agents. She says that there are six hundred, at least, special agents pulled off of other cases, sent down to the border, to babysit illegal immigrants. Is she wrong?

Mayorkas: We use our personnel to achieve the maximum law enforcement objective possible.

Hawley: So you're not going to deny it….let the record reflect that the secretary will not deny what she has said, that hundreds of special agents are pulled off of their law enforcement duties, all around the country, and sent down to the border to make sandwiches for illegal immigrants. This is your administration in action. It's a total failure, mister secretary.

Mayorkas: That is incorrect.

Reporter: It's being reported that Yemen declared war on Israel. How concerning is that?

John Kirby [White House press conference]: I haven't seen that report, that they've declared war…I can't confirm this report because I haven't seen it.

[no way he is not aware of it; the report is hours old]

Reporter: The people in this country making violent, anti-Semitic threats; are they domestic terrorists?

Kirby: I don't know that we're classifying people as domestic terrorists for that, that's really a question better left to law enforcement. I'm not aware that there's been such a characterization of that.

Reporter: Is there any heartburn about leaving the border in such a condition that one of those six hundred thousand [gotaways] could be a terrorist?

Kirby: We are constantly monitoring, as best we can, all ports of entry to the country, for the potential arrival of anybody who might wish us harm

Reporter: Is it possible that somebody who wants to commit a terrorist attack during a time of elevated threat, crossed the southern border into the United States already?

Kirby: I couldn't possibly answer that question. All I can do is tell you we have remained vigilant to that possible threat.

Reporter: If Hamas terrorists attack the US, would US put boots on the ground in the middle-east?

Kirby: I won't speculate about that…we will obviously do what we have to do to protect our troops.

Schumer [press conference]: We need aid for Israel, we need aid for Ukraine, we need aid for the South Asia, and we feel very strongly that we need humanitarian aid for innocent civilians in Gaza who are hurt.
