so when. draining a foundation it is very important you do not build the house on a rock ledge or where a pool can a form around the foundation. you certainly cannot backfill any foundation with large heavy boulders in clay type soil with high water absorption exceeding the lb per square inch rating of the concrete..heavly rocky areas along the applachian trail contain very hard granite.. is high excavated rock areas you can form a pool without proper drainage around the foundation. sometimes the inspector is an asshole and intentionally passes a drainage permit knowing that the contractor is performing the work wrong intentionally. hint hint. to relieve the pressure the large rocks must be removed and proper drainage installed. in some areas you need to compliment this with sump pumps for backup. especially in hard rock areas.. do place your water supply pipe on the side of the house where the rock ledge exists.. water can easily penetrate any cut holes on rock ledge side.. in some cases the rock is so dense its waste of time to keep rock hammering. just drain it.
