KJV History (1/2)
King James Version (KJV), also called Authorized Version or King James Bible, English translation of the Bible, published in 1611 under the auspices of King James I of England. The translation had a marked influence on English literary style and was generally accepted as the standard English Bible from the mid-17th to the early 20th century.
By June 30, 1604, James had approved a list of 54 revisers, although extant records show that 47 scholars actually participated. They were organized into six companies, two each working separately at Westminster, Oxford, and Cambridge on sections of the Bible assigned to themโฆ
The new Bible was published in 1611.

Lancelot Andrewes and the Translation
Lancelot Andrewes was designated by the king as the chief of the Westminster Translators and director of the First Company. The First Westminster Company had responsibility for translating the Old Testament from Genesis through 2 Kings. Andrewes likely had a major hand in the selection of all the Westminster Translators. He had been at the Hampton Court Conference where the new translation had its beginning and was a major influence in the project after that.
The men of the Westminster Companies all lived in London, or within a day's journey of the city, so as to be able to attend their regular meetings. A November 1604 letter from Lancelot Andrewes makes clear that his company had begun the work of translation. Tradition has it that Lancelot Andrewes' Company began its work in the Jerusalem Chamber of Westminster Abbey.
Though no record of the work of Andrewes' company survives, the finished product speaks for itself. Lancelot Andrewes' influence goes well beyond what his company did. His personal encouragement, mentoring, and example served to inspire all the Translators, knowing that this man, whom they all admired, would be reviewing their work.

A prayer from the tomb of Bishop Lancelot Andrewes at Southwark Cathedral, London.
Thou, O Lord, art the Helper of the helpless,
the Hope of the Hopeless,
the Saviour of them who are tossed with the tempests,
the Haven of them who sail; be thou all to all.
The glorious majesty of the Lord our God be upon us,
prosper thou the work of our hands upon us,
Oh! prosper thou our handiwork.
Lord, be thou within us, to strengthen us;
without us to keep us; above us to protect us;
beneath us to uphold us; before us to direct us;
behind us to keep us from straying;
round about us to defend us.
Blessed be Thou, O Lord our Father, for ever and ever.
"Lancelot Andrewes was a bishop and scholar who played a key role in the translation of the Authorised Version or King James Version of the Bible. Although he worked mainly through the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I successively, he is counted as one of the early Caroline Divines, known for their scholarship and devotional writings."

A little history lesson. Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot
Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot (1/6)
Every 5 November in Britain on Guy Fawkes Day, we remember the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, when Guy Fawkes and fellow Catholic conspirators attempted to blow up Parliament and assassinate James I of England.

N.B. Many consider the Gunpowder Plot to be one of the first historical examples of a False Flag. It is possible that Guy Fawkes was framed.
Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot (2/6)
Historical context: in the 1530s, the British Royals cut ties with the Roman Catholic Church. There followed many decades of religious persecution, violence and unrest between Protestants and Catholics. These were dangerous and divided times (a bit like today?)
WHY DID GUY FAWKES TRY TO BLOW UP PARLIAMENT?
With the new reign, Catholics across the country had hoped for the end of the religious persecution they suffered for so long.
After all, the King's mother - Mary, Queen of Scots - had been a devout Catholic. However they were soon disappointed; the Protestant James I wasn't a tolerant king.
The conspirators, with Guy Fawkes now among them, decided on a drastic measure.
Catesbyโs plan was to blow up Parliament during its State Opening on 5 November, when James I, the Queen and his heir would also be present, and would be killed.
The conspirators then hoped to crown the King's young daughter, Princess Elizabeth.
N.B. This Princess Elizabeth is not the same as Queen Elizabeth I, who had passed away 2 years previously in 1603.

Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot (3/6)
HOW DID GUY FAWKES GET CAUGHT?
The plan very nearly succeeded. It was only thanks to an anonymous letter to the authorities, received in late October, that the King, his family and his Protestant ministers were not all murdered.
An extract reads: โthey shall receive a terrible blow this parliament and yet they shall not see who hurts themโ.
Royal guards searched The House of Lords at midnight and in the early hours of 5 November Fawkes was discovered in the cellars, with a fuse, a small lamp, a box of matches and 36 poorly-hidden barrels of gunpowder.

Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot (4/6)
A memorial was erected to commemorate the foiling of the plot.
OUT OF DARKNESS AND INTO LIGHT
The monument records the names of the Gunpowder Plot conspirators, alongside those of the Privy Councillors who conducted their interrogation.
Underneath there is a quote from the Old Testament in Hebrew and repeated in Latin below. It translates as โHe discovererth deep things out of darkness and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.โ Job XII.22. This may refer to the capture and questioning of the plotters.

Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot (5/6)
In Britain, this event is still remembered every year on November 5th. Known as Bonfire Night or Fireworks Night, people gather for fireworks displays and burn a "Guy" a straw man that represents Guy Fawkes.
THE BONFIRE TRADITION
In January 1606 James I passed a thanksgiving act to celebrate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot and his deliverance from danger.
Called the Observance of 5 November Act 1605, it involved a special church service, bonfires and fireworks.
It remained in force until 1859 although celebrations still take place today.
Another tradition that still lives on is the ceremonial search before the State Opening of Parliament, when the Yeomen of the Guard look for hidden explosives in the cellars of the Palace of Westminster.

Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot (6/6)
On 5th November 1606, the one year anniversary of the plot, Bishop Lancelot Andrewes, a leading cleric and scholar who was at that time working on the translation of the King James Bible (pay attention, anons! we have more than we know!) gave a sermon at Whitehall about the importance of REMEMBRANCE, that we should not forget how the enemies of freedom operate.
To this day, the plot is remembered with the aid of a little rhyme that is taught to all children:
"Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot."

Just a reminder:
This is not about politics.
This is not about R vs D.
This is not about religions or party affiliation.
There is an enemy that wants to keep us divided.
There is an enemy that wants to keep us in fear.
Together we are strong.
Together we win.
This is a soul game.
This is not a political game.
This is not a game.
>It's just dumb.
That's a very simplistic read of a very complex message from the past.
It's a way to remember.
The enemy would prefer us to forget.
Lancelot Andrewes knew his enemy.
He knew that future generations would need to know the lessons of the past.
Ancient enemy.
Multi-generational warfare.
