Couple of quick thoughts regarding the Trump Turnbull Transcript.
For starters, it reaffirms that Barack was importing Muslims, particularly from Syria. Pretty interesting.
But what I found telling was Turnbull's response to Trump's probe. For starters, he said the US was only obligated to go through the vetting process. This would fall to Homeland Security? What would have happened if HC was in? Obviously less vetting.
Next, Aus would be taking in 31 people the U.S 'has to move on from'. Other reports I've seen mention these were either Central American immigrants or immigrants in Central American detention centres. Why so few? Why did they need to be moved on? Were they criminals? Children?
Turnbull's response is:
"Basically, we are taking people from the previous administration that they were very keen on getting out of the United States. We will take more. We will take anyone that you want us to take. The only people that we do not take are people who come by boat. So we would rather take a not very attractive guy that help you out then to take a Noble Peace Prize winner that comes by boat. That is the point."
Basically Turnbull doesn't give a fuck who comes, as long as they aren't 'boat people'. This is apparently to prevent encouraging people smugglers. For me personally, I figure it's just to make him look good.
Why were they so keen to get only these 31 people out of the US? Really primes my pistachios.
