Cracks emerging within Ukrainian leadership – NYT

The paper cited the presidential office’s recent scolding of top military commander Valery Zaluzhny for saying Kiev wasn’t winning

There are growing fissures within the Ukrainian leadership, the New York Times has claimed, citing recent public criticism of the country’s top military commander, Valery Zaluzhny, by President Vladimir Zelensky’s administration. The general claimed last week that the conflict with Russia had reached a stalemate, and that neither side was likely to make significant gains anytime soon.

In its article on Saturday, the NYT alleged that the public rebuke “signaled an emerging rift between the military and civilian leadership at an already challenging time for Ukraine.” According to the newspaper, rumors about tensions between Zelensky and Zaluzhnyhave been circulating in Ukraine for over a year now. However, the scolding on Saturday that presidential office deputy head Igor Zhovkva levelled at the commander over his recent piece for The Economist may have been the first time this rift had been exposed, the NYT suggested.

Zelensky’s administration publicly criticized Zaluzhny after he warned in his article for the British magazine that the belligerents were locked in a “stalemate,” comparing the situation to World War I.

The general went on to predict that the Ukrainian military was unlikely to pull off a “deep and beautiful breakthrough,” unless its backers provide it with more advanced weaponry.

Commenting on Zaluzhny’s piece, Zhovkva said that the “last thing I would do is comment for the press… about what is happening at the front [and] what could happen at the front.” The official went on to suggest that such revelations play into Russia’s hands.

He claimed to have received phone calls from unnamed Western officials who were in a panic and inquired if Kiev was “really at a dead end.”

Zelensky, too, made it clear during a press conference on Saturday that he does not see the front as being at a stalemate. (Delusional or he believes his own propaganda being constantly high on Cocaine)

The public exchange came amid heavy casualties and modest gains that the Ukrainian counteroffensive, which began in early June, has yielded so far. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu’s estimates, Kiev has lost as many as 90,000 military personnel since then.

The Ukrainian leadership has acknowledged that the operation is not proceeding as smoothly as planned, a circumstance that Zelensky has suggested is due to inadequate aid provided by the West.

(Zelensky & fake spouse, really need to pack their bags, his multiple expensive cars, all the cash he and his wife stole from Western partners, her belongings from the million dollar shopping spree in Paris, the historical jewels and art they stole from museums, the historical religious icons & relics they stole from the Russian church’s & monasteries, and whatever they can,NOW. Being In the middle of A Military Coup would not be a safe place for him and the Oligarchs who haven’t left yet. He is delusional forpublicly chastising the man who knowshow many Ukrainian young men are dead, which is much more than 90,000, McGregor said a month ago, its estimated at 300,000 to 500,000 dead and wounded. The EU and the West know this and they don’t give a fuck. When Bidan said “down to the last Ukrainian that was the West’s goal, not at all about patriotism. Zelensky should get out now.)

Ukraine’s KGB successor targets Russian church leader

The country’s security service believes Patriarch Kirill has spread “propaganda” supporting Moscow’s military campaign

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has designated Patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church,as a suspect in a criminal caserelated to his alleged active support of Moscow’s military operation against Kiev.

In a statement on Saturday, the agency said that together with the Prosecutor General’s Office it had gathered evidence against the religious leader and accused him of “promoting the armed aggression of the Russian Federation and denying the war crimes.”

The SBU claimed that Kirill “is a member of the inner circle of Russia’s top military and political leadership,” adding that he uses Orthodox communities both at home and in Ukraine “to spread propaganda.”

In total, according to the security service, the primate could face three criminal charges, including encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity, “justification” and “glorification” of Russia’s actions in the conflict, as well as “planning, preparation, initiation, and waging an aggressive war.”

On February 24, 2022, the day Russia started its military operation, Kirill urged both sides to do their best to avoid civilian casualties, while arguing that centuries-old ties between the Russian and Ukrainian peoples would allow them to overcome the political schism.

A month later,he declared that Russia had “entered a struggle of not physical, but metaphysical significance.” He has also blasted both the Ukrainian government and its Western backers for “sabotaging” Russian efforts to resolve the conflict in Donbass since 2014, when hostilities first erupted in the region.

In September, the patriarch opined that “Russia faces the main task of emerging victorious from the struggle that has been unleashed by the forces of evil” while calling for the “mobilization” of all of Russian society.

Kirill has been placedunder sanctions by Ukraine and a number of Western countries. The Russian Orthodox Church has denounced the restrictions, suggesting that they only play into the hands of those who “see the escalation of the conflict and the drift away from peace as an important goal.”

The investigation targeting the Russian church leader comes as the SBU, along with other Ukrainian government agencies, continues an unprecedented crackdown on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), suspecting it of being a Russian tool despite it severing ties with Moscow shortly after the start of the conflict. Ukrainian officials have seized a number of UOC churches and turned them over to the Kiev-backed Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) which is considered schismatic by the Russian Orthodox Church.

(Someone has to save this Patriarch and get him out of there asap. Ukraine is run by Satanists, it’s literally insane what they are doing, anyone that disagrees with them is an agent of Russia.)

Zelensky admits Ukraine’s backers talking to Russia

The Ukrainian president has admitted that dialogue probably continues at the level of intelligence services or top advisers

Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky has admitted that countries among his Western backers are communicating with Russia, despite his repeated refusal to engage with Moscow on resolving the ongoing conflict.

In an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Zelensky was asked to address reports that Western officials had approached Kiev to discuss potential peace talks with Russia. The channel also sought to clarify whether he was personally involved in the process.

Zelensky said that while he had heard “a lot of different voices and emotions and without any contradictions and propositions,” he did not have any contact with Russia, adding that all top US officials and policymakers were well aware of his refusal to negotiate with Moscow.

The Ukrainian president also stressed that he had not experienced any overt pressure from the West to sit down with his opponent. However, he conceded that “I’m sure that there are some countries [where] on the level of intelligence or advisers of leaders… maybe they speak with Russia. Maybe they think how to manage everything.”

According to Zelensky, however, talks are impossible until Russian troops leave the territory that Ukraine claims as its own. That statement was in line with the Ukrainian leader’s long-touted peace formula, which also demands the establishment of a tribunal to prosecute Russians for alleged war crimes. Moscow has repeatedly dismissed the proposals as detached from reality.

While the Kremlin maintains it is open to a settlement with Ukraine, Zelensky signed a decree last autumn banning any negotiation with the current leadership after four former Ukrainian regions overwhelmingly voted to join Russia.

However, NBC reported on Saturday thatWestern officials were holding “delicate” talks with Kiev, probing it on what concessions it might be willing to make to end the conflict.

The discussions are reportedly being driven by fears that hostilities have “reached a stalemate,” and thatUkraine is “running out of forces.” It comes amid Kiev’s ongoing counteroffensive, which has been underway since June, but has failed to gain any substantial ground. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, Ukraine has lost more than 90,000 troops since the start of the push.

EU state to scrap free accommodation for Ukrainians

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar cited his nation’s housing crisis, but has said people from the country will still be welcome

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has announced his governmentintends to make Ukrainian refugees payfor their accommodation in the country. He noted that Ireland has so far been among the most generous EU member states in this respect, but cannot sustain it anymore due to a housing crisis.

Speaking to reporters during an official visit to South Korea over the weekend, Varadkar explained that the “numbers have been very large. It’s putting huge pressure on accommodation.”

The new policy, which the prime minister hopes to introduce before the end of the year, is meant to decrease the flow of newcomers, so that Irish authorities have “more time to catch up on” housing and other issues.

Varadkar also pointed out that other EU member states “don’t offer, for example, unlimited state-provided accommodation at no cost,” explaining that he would like to bring conditions in line with those in other Western European nations.

He said approximately30% of the 500 to 800 Ukrainians arriving each weekin Ireland had claimed temporary protection in another European state before moving on to the island nation.

The prime minister stressed, however, that “Ukrainians will still be welcome here.”

On top of ending free accommodation, the Irish government is also planning tochange social welfare benefitsto encourage Ukrainian refugees to seek jobs. The details have yet to be finalized.

Meanwhile, Germany’s Der Spiegel reported on Saturday that Berlin’s efforts to integrate Ukrainians into the local labor market appear to be failing. The outlet quoted several regional officials as saying that new legislation introduced by the government may actually discourage newcomers from seeking a job.

Under the new rules, Ukrainian refugees now receive €502 ($540) a month in ‘citizens’ benefits’ (Buergergeld) as opposed to a payout of €410 per month they were entitled to previously. On top of that, they are now being provided with an apartment instead of shared accommodation.

Mattias Jendricke, a district administrator in Nordhausen, Thuringia, told Der Spiegel that the government has “made it too nice for them.” While another official noted that the“willingness of refugees from Ukraine to workhas decreased significantly with the switch to citizens’ benefits.”

According to the head of the Federal Employment Agency, Andrea Nahles, the employment rate of Ukrainian refugees stands at 19%.

Meanwhile, as of late September, theirnumber in Germany exceeded one million, as estimated by Mediendienst Integration information service.
