Hillary Clinton grins from ear to ear at Glamour event on election night - as Dems win key battles across the country

The former secretary of state wore regal purple as her political party scored significant wins in tight races

While some attended election parties, Clinton presented an award at the Glamour Women of the Year awards alongside her daughter Chelsea

Former first lady and secretary of state Hilary Clinton looked chic Wednesday night as she spoke onstage alongside her daughter Chelsea Clinton at the Glamour Women of the Year awards.

While some political figures attended election night parties or made the rounds on cable news, Clinton, 76, and her daughter, 43, took to the stage Tuesday night to present America Ferrera with one of the magazine's Women of the Year awards.

On stage at Jazz at Lincoln Center in new York City, Clinton wore a rich purple dress, adorned with jewel-toned beads that matched the former first lady's signature colorful accessories.

Chelsea opted for a more subdued classic fit. She wore a tight-fitting, cap-sleeved black dress with a flattering neckline. She wore her hair loose and down around her face, and kept her jewelry minimal.

As the Clintons stepped out to celebrate the Women of the year, Democrats around the country emerged victorious in tight races including Kentucky's gubernatorial race, several key races in Virginia, and the pro-choice movement scored a big win in Ohio.

Many of the women honored by Glamour are politically involved, in addition to their more conventional showbiz careers.

Ferrera, for instance, was first introduced to the Clintons on the 2008 campaign trail, where she enthusiastically backed Hillary Clinton, hoping she would become the country's first female president.

Accepting her award, Ferrera said: 'Madame Secretary, I know I speak for so many of us when I say that you have been an example to all of us to always show up for the work on good days and especially on bad days.

'You always rise to fight another day, and you have been a deep inspiration and influence in my life. Thank you for who you are in this world and for honoring me with your presence here tonight.'

Other high-profile attendees and honorees at the awards show included Millie Bobby Brown, Brooke Shields, Mary J. Blige, Geena Rocero, Quinta Brunson, and Selma Blair.
