Moldova set to become victim of Western colonialism – Moscow

The leaders of the EU-aspirant country want to sacrifice its sovereignty, says Nikolay Patrushev of the Russian Security Council

The government of Moldova wants to subjugate the country to the West, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev warned on Wednesday. This policy is the opposite of what its people want, he claimed.

“The leadership of Moldova under Western pressure and in defiance of the opinion of its people has taken the course to joining the EU, Romanianization, rejection of sovereignty and national identity,” the senior official said at an intragovernmental meeting in Moscow.

“In essence, Moldova risks becoming a new victim of the Western colonialist policy,”he told his counterparts from the Commonwealth of Independents States (CIS), a regional organization that includes former parts of the USSR.

Moldova is a CIS member, but has been distancing itself from the group under the leadership of President Maia Sandu. The politician, who has dual Moldovan-Romanian citizenship, is a critic of Russia and an avowed supporter of joining the EU.

Sandu’s Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) suffered a major blow at the ballot boxlast Sunday, when its candidates for mayors and county administrators were overwhelmingly rejected by voters.In more than 600 elections, opposition parties wonin the first round, according to the authorities. Some 265 communities will pick their leaders in the second round on November 19.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the outcome an “unflattering judgment on the dead-end course pursued by the ruling party.”

She noted that the defeat had come despite an “unprecedented campaign of repression of the opposition and independent media,direct blackmail of voters, discrimination against candidates based on their spoken language, and even a direct ban of the competition.”

During the meeting of security chiefs, Patrushev said this was a “period when the process of the destruction of the West-centered world order becomes inevitable.” An increasing number of countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America are becoming more assertive in defending national interests, he stated.

Simultaneously, the US and its allies “seek to dictate their interests to economically and politically dependent nations more aggressively,” according to Patrushev. The West openly applies double standards to justify its hegemonic policies, he said.

“While it encourages crimes committed by the Kiev regime andturns a blind eye on the violations of law and human rights in Moldova, they condemn Russia and Belarus, demand investigations in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and arbitrarily impose unilateral restrictions,”he added.

Scholz unveils major immigration reform

The German chancellor’s plan envisages easier deportations and the possibility of establishing processing centers outside the EU

Germany is to tighten its immigration laws andmay begin processing asylum applicants in third countries outside of the European Union, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni revealed earlier this week that Rome is going to build such a holding facility in Albania. Emerging from marathon nine-hour-long talks with regional leaders into the early hours of Tuesday, Chancellor Scholz hailed the agreed-on measures as a “historic moment.” He named the restriction of “irregular migration” as his cabinet’s objective. He also pledged that the federal government would support regional authorities with respect to receiving immigrants. Those who’ve been denied the right to stay in Germany, especiallyoffenders and criminals, will be deportedback to their home countries more swiftly, Scholz said, with Berlin actively negotiating with several nations of origin. According to the chancellor, all court processes for asylum eligibility will now take no longer than six months. To speed matters up, the government will also introduce more digital solutions. West has lost billions trying ‘to teach Russia a lesson’ – Lavrov

Sanctions designed to hurt Moscow are destroying the global economy, the foreign minister says

EU businesses havelost at least €250 billion ($266.6 billion)due to the sweeping sanctions imposed on Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Wednesday.

According to the top diplomat, these are “very conservative estimates” of the damage that the West has inflicted on its own businesses over the past year-and-a-half by introducing unilateral sanctions.

Russia-EU trade turnover totaled $200 billion in 2022 and is expected to drop to less than $100 billion by the end of 2023, according to the Foreign Ministry.

The latest ministry estimates show that mutual trade between Russia and EU member states, which totaled $417 billion in 2013, could have reached $700 billion this year were it not for the sanctions.

Speaking at a Ukraine-related meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions in Moscow, Lavrov said that, while the EU shows no sign of reversing its policies, Russia is creating independent trade mechanisms.

“We understand perfectly well that the sanctions imposed against us will not go away in the foreseeable future, and even in the longer term. We don’t need this, not because we choose isolationism or self-sufficiency.The West decided to destroy the world economy for the sake of teaching Russia a lesson,” he said.

Lavrov stressed that Russia will rely “exclusively” on itself in strategic areas. According to Lavrov, the country is now building up new transport corridors and supply chains that will be “beyond the control of malicious influence” from the West.

Many economists worldwide have repeatedly emphasized that Western sanctions have failed to achieve the declared goal of destabilizing Russia and its economy. While the Russian economy initially suffered a downturn as a result of restrictions last year, it has now largely recovered after redirecting trade to the East, according to the Finance Ministry.

Thus far, the EU has introduced11 sanctions packagesagainst Russia over its military operation in Ukraine. The number of restrictions has reached tens of thousands, although officials in the EU and US have repeatedly admitted that the negative impact of the penalties on Russia has not been as significant as expected.

A vast number of Americans saw through the façade and viewed the conflict as a colossal money-laundering scheme rather than a genuine war. Despite a relentless propaganda blitz by the US and global media, the reality that Zelensky was outgunned by Putin was obvious. And now, to really seal the deal, a high-ranking Ukrainian general has acknowledged a “stalemate,” effectively signaling a deadlocked scenario and a no-win situation.

Ukraine’s General Valery Zaluzhny surprised observers of the invasion this week with an unusually candid assessment that the warring parties had reached a deadlock along the sprawling front.

“Just like in the First World War, we have reached the level of technology that puts us into a stalemate,” he told the British magazine, The Economist.

“There will most likely be no deep and beautiful breakthrough.”

‘New approaches needed’

The comments poured cold water on the highly-touted counteroffensive that Ukraine launched this summer after stockpiling Western weapons and training new recruits.

But the push gained little ground and AFP journalists found last month that Ukraine was still battling Russian forces in one key village it had claimed to recapture weeks earlier.

In response to Zaluzhny’s comments, a senior Ukrainian official told AFP the country was facing a turning point, and would need to decide on a strategy on how to win the conflict with Russia.

Presidential aide Mykhailo Podolyak meanwhile conceded in turn that this period of fighting had run into “difficulties”.

And Oleksiy Danilov, the head of Ukraine’s security council, acknowledged that, “new approaches are needed.”

Ukrainian forces have urged Western allies to provide F-16 fighters jets and long range missiles as infantry crash into deep Russian defensive lines they have struggled to penetrate.

“We have problems with too many issues. First, the quality of training for our soldiers. Second, we don’t have enough weapons or artillery,” a 33-year-old Ukrainian serviceman near Bakhmut told AFP.

“We’re starved for artillery and it’s getting worse,” said the soldier, who goes by “Dan”.

The situation has reached a point where even CNN, in an unexpected turn of events, has resorted to what they’ve long avoided—they’ve conceded to the grim realities and, surprisingly, reported the truth. Popular X account “KanekoaTheGreat” posted an eye-opening video recently, underscoring what many of us have known all along: Ukraine didn’t stand a chance, and the funds we’ve poured in were probably siphoned off for the elite’s gain.

Gabe Amo will soon be Rhode Island’s first person of color in Congress after handily winning a special election for its 1st Congressional District.

Amo defeated Republican Marine Corps veteran and political newcomer Gerry Leonard, according to The Associated Press. The two were vying to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), who left Congress earlier this year to run the Rhode Island Foundation, a philanthropic organization in the state.

Amo is a former White House aide and touted his experience in the Biden and Obama administrations throughout the campaign. He also leaned into messaging that Democrats across the country have used successfully over the last year and are hoping will have the same salience in 2024: supporting abortion rights, providing a contrast to “extreme” Republicans, protecting Social Security and Medicare and advocating for gun safety.

When asked what lessons from his race could be applied to 2024, he told POLITICO after his win: “Ultimately, telling the stories of our success: investing in people and places, the historic agenda that President Biden has put forward, but also focusing on people's real concerns about whether government is working for them."

Those messages were shared with a friendly audience. Amo was widely expected to prevail in the deep-blue district covering the Democratic strongholds of Providence, Newport and Bristol counties that voted for President Joe Biden by double digits in 2020. Rhode Island hasn’t sent a Republican to Congress in decades. Still, Amo was active on the trail in the lead-up to the general election.

The University of North Florida [DATA HERE] shows President Donald Trump with a solid 60% of the primary vote ahead of Wednesday’s debate among ‘first-loser’ candidates.

The question consistently posed is why any Republican candidate would continue trying to undermine the clear leader of the Florida voter.The answer is quite simple, the remaining field is not trying to win the GOP nomination, but rather to undermine, damage and work on behalf of their multinational donors to block Trump – no matter the consequence.

(UNF POLL) – A new poll from the University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab asked likely Republican primary voters across Florida their preferences in the 2024 presidential primary. When given a list of possible candidates, 60% of respondents indicated a vote for Donald Trump, followed by 21% for Ron DeSantis in a distant second place. Nikki Haley came in third with 6%, followed by Chris Christie with 2%, and Vivek Ramaswamy with 1%. The remaining candidates each received less than 1%. When asked to choose between DeSantis and Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head race, 59% of respondents said they would vote for Trump, with 29% for DeSantis, and 12% who don’t know or refused. (read more)

Clearly, Florida voters continue to see through the charade represented by Ron DeSantis since his May announcement to enter the race. There is clear voter backlash in the state toward DeSantis that was not anticipated by the handlers of the Florida governor.

The backlash is related more to the Florida Republican base increasingly identifying the background motive of DeSantis that was visible long before he made his announcement.For DeSantis to be losing his own state by such a margin reflects the ability of the Florida voter to see through the astroturf and manipulation that was carried out as part of the operation.

President Trump has chosen not to engage in the debate Wednesday; instead he will be holding a rally in Hialeah.

We can anticipate that Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis will be desperate to achieve the coveted first-loser position.

Kremlin warns West of ‘serious costs’ if assets seized

Lawmakers in Washington want Russian funds to be used as aid for Ukraine

The US will face serious consequences if it confiscates frozen Russian assets and sends them to Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned on Wednesday.

The US House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday approved a draft law dubbed the ‘REPO for Ukrainians Act’, which would authorize the president to confiscate frozen Russian assets in American jurisdiction, with the exception of diplomatic property. The secretary of state would then be able to use the money to fund humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts by Ukraine.

Speaking to journalists, Peskov described any such step as “illegal” and “contrary to all possible rules.” He added that it would “result in serious court and judicial costs for those who would take such decisions and implement them.”

Russian retaliation “will likely not be tit-for-tat, but the one that serves our interests in the best way,” the Kremlin spokesman stated, noting that the US move “would, of course, be contested, and contested indefinitely by our country.

The bill, which was approved by 40 members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, presents the expropriation as an enforcement of Russia’s obligations to compensate damage suffered by Ukraine.

“The confiscation and repurposing of Russian sovereign assets by the United States is in the vital national security interests of the United States,” the document claimed.

Under the proposal, Russian assets could also be used to support “the welfare of the people of Ukraine.” The draft law does not specify what kind of spending would qualify.

TheUS and its allies have frozen an estimated $300 billion worth of Russian sovereign assetsas part of their campaign to punish Moscow. There have been numerous calls to confiscate the money and donate it to Kiev, although some Western officials have cautioned that such a move would be illegal. The sponsors of the US bill claim otherwise.

Russia has branded the freezing of its assets as an act of theft and has argued that it undermines Western global influence.

“The fact that they froze our foreign exchange reserves – well, we’ve earned twice as much already.It’s not about this $300 billion, it’s about the erosion of trust in those who behave that way,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in September.

Nations that value their sovereignty and have concerns over possible Western reprisals are increasingly avoiding Western-controlled financial instruments and mechanisms, according to the Russian leadership.

Putin says Russia, China not creating military alliances

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Moscow and Beijing are not forming anymilitary alliances on the model of Cold War alliances, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission Zhang Youxia.

"Russia and China are not building military alliances on the model of Cold War alliances. And our interaction with you is constructive and a serious factor in stabilizing the international situation," the Russian president pointed out.

Putin noted that the two countries are cooperating quite effectively in the economic sphere. "Trade and economic relations are developing at a good pace. We are achieving our goals ahead of schedule, we’re working on international platforms, in international organizations, first of all in the UN," he said, listing the areas of cooperation.

According to the Russian president, Moscow and Beijing are paying sufficient attention to regional platforms, which are "becoming more and more global." He explained that he was referring to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS.

Putin recalled that Russia will chair the BRICS in 2024. "And we very much expect that together with our Chinese friends we will promote the agenda that seems to us the most expedient and promising and will meet the interests of all member countries of this association," the Russian head of state summed up.
