Some of my folks fought with Cromwell
Some colonized the Massachusetts Bay
I come from a Revolutionary War Hero
I come from the War of 1812
They fought both sides of the Civil War
They went to France and never came back
One endured the march of Bataan
One shot down in the Vietnam jungle
My folks were Puritans, and a Rough Rider
My folks were bank robbers and mule thieves
A surveyor of Indian Territory
A worker on the Panama Canal
They were farmers, preachers, barkeeps
They were slave holder and slave, alike
Some had wealth and riches
Some lived close to the ground
This country was built on the backs of my people
Built, too, on the backs of yours, I bet
My folks were immigrants and natural born
My folks were white, black and brown
By their blood, toil, tears
By the sweat of their brow
They may have been faulty individuals
But cumulatively, they made this nation
And, I bet, did yours, anon
MAGA
We owe it to them.
