During USS Forrestal's final deployment to the Med in 1991 there was a "mishap"
A-6 Intruder from VA-176 was doing a practice night bombing on a rock of an island inhabited by goats. According to the survivor, the thousand pound bomb went down about six feet after release and detonated. The blast tore off the wing and the plane went inverted. The crew ejected, one recovered. Despite a search lasting for days that included ships of several NATO navies, the body of the other crewman was never found
Rest In Peace, Lt. Steven Cullen
